I guess those listed above will have lots of animations, people, airport vehicles running about, full operations like a real airport and all perfectly modelled in the right positions and finely textured just like the real thing whilst non-premium ones with be very detailed but with less going on, some less important buildings missing or using library models/textures but still looking good.
Correct.

"Standard edition players will be able to fly from all the airports in the game, but there are "hand crafted" elements that will improve the experience from those airports included in the different editions. So, the premium edition Heathrow, for example, will be better than the Heathrow in the standard and deluxe editions. But that does mean standard edition users will indeed be able to fly from Heathrow, as well as all UK airports."

The cost is not that bad when you look at modules for other flight sims. I mean I have spent £100 on a single aircraft before now... several times.

Thats why I want to wait and see what the gfx and the modling is like. P3D is expensive and not that accurate when it comes to the terrain but the aircraft are 99.99% accurate if you buy something like QOTSII or the 777.

I guess it will be popular with pilots seeing as they'll be stacking shelves in the future.....too soon? wink

I've been waiting for this , for a while, it looks stunning hope my PC is up to the job.......of rendering the start menu.
Most U.K. airlines are making lots of pilot redundancies at the moment. Quite a few PHers are in the firing line. I hope I’ll keep my job and my home but any of us made redundant won’t find another flying job for years.

So your jokes about it aren’t appreciated tbh.
Dry your eyes.
Where do you work? Make sure you post if you’re facing redundancy so people can make jokes about it.

Not that most normal people would actually think to do that.

Wouldn’t want to be in your shoes, lots of others facing the same so it’s not a good time for many.

Being in it together doesn’t make it better so I hope you’re lucky but as a pilot you will have some very desirable transferable skills That consultancies will be happy to look at such as ours (no promises)

Hope for the best with your job but plan, I dare say you’ll get a good pay but no harm in looking outside

There is something very fishy going off here. The Alpha testers have either been testing a build thats months behind or the launch is going to be a car crash.

If they have been testing an old build one has to ask the question why when in all probability many of the bugs will have already been squashed.

Some people have invested a lot of time in the Alpha's if it turns out Asobo's internal testers pretty much had it wrapped up and they were only needed to check out if the infrastructure could cope I could understand if they were a bit peeved.

Months of Alpha then a 2 week Beta ...

This is MS we are talking about LOL

Thats why I am going to wait for now, give it a few weeks and see how stable it is.

FSX was often unstable for me.

P3D was improved but not perfect, although not an MS product.

DCS has never once crashed on me. Ever.

There is nothing more frustrating than spending an hour setting everything up, flying 2 hours to an airport and just as you start your approach it crashes to desktop.

Is there much detail yet about how much of a stripped back experience this will be on the Xbox Series X?

Years ago I was heavily into FSX, flying PMDG aircraft etc and spent thousands on addons, chasing that perfect realism. But the thought of building a PC again for this fills me with foreboding, plus I have nowhere to realistically put it.

My time is pretty limited these days so it's a rabbit hole I can ill afford to go down...

I'm sure the graphics will be ace on the console, my worry is how gimmicky an experience it'll be trying to fly an A320 with a console pad! The default aircraft in FSX were horrendously bad/arcadey, and whilst I'm not expecting anything like the full PMDG style experience to be workable on a console, I'd like to think there might be a middle ground for those who don't have/don't want a PC.

I'm guessing this could be a flagship console-selling title so hopefully it'll be good enough to not make me crave a PC again!

P3d 777 is pretty realistic. As is the quality wings 787.

Some great YouTube videos going through the procedures on aviation pro

You can even get an Airbus Thrustmaster joystick and throttle quadrant now.

I have both the 777 and QOTS2 and both are brilliant and well worth the money. I fly the 747 most just because its a beast but if I fancy some fun or shorter flights I also have the PMDG 737.

Honestly why would you do this to me!!

Seriously though I'm definitely not going down the PC route, I just can't afford the time or financial investment in all honesty. Maybe in a few years when we have a bigger place and I can have a dedicated permanent setup but right now just not feasible. Hopefully the console version is a good enough middle ground to keep me satisfied!

Just the thought of even an arcade-y version with those graphics is making me really excited, I love commercial aviation but I also used to really love flying light aircraft around the ORBX Alaska region as the graphics were so beautiful (until FSX crashed and you turned the PC off in a piss....!)

There’s no info about the Xbox version yet (that I’ve seen) if the graphics are similar, and there’s no reason they shouldn’t be. it will still likely be great to fly around places you know etc. I’m definitely going to get it.

It’s obviously going to be stripped down but might still be great, depending on what you want it for.

Looks like it’s coming some after the pc version though as far as I can see.

I’m in a similar situation, I haven’t had a PC for a while and my son now has a decent pc that looks like it will at least satisfy the middle requirements for fs2020 he’s trying to goad me into upgrading it and getting some peripherals etc. hehe

Yeah I think it'll plug the gap fairly nicely until I can/want to go back down the route of a permanent simming setup. Looking at the Thrustmaster website they do this

http://www.thrustmaster.com/en_UK/products/tflight...

Which says it'll work on the Series X - would help add some more feel to it I'm sure.

That looks great. I’m looking at similar.

Have you tried the free little google earth flight sim? You need a laptop or pc (not mobile version) but it’s great for having a quick fly around ultra realistic scenery.

It used to be a little Easter egg but it’s part of the desktop goggle earth version.

It’s like a basic old School flight sim but using google earth. hehe

I travel a lot and use DCS/XP11 on my laptop with a Rift S. I have a full TM HOTAS at home but obviously don't take it with me. When I'm away I use a Xbox 360 controller and in VR it is actually very effective. Even the little sticks on the controller are good enough for AAR or heli flying in DCS with a little practice.

One of the big advantages of VR you do not need a huge number of button bindings, you essentially just look at the switch/control you want to interact with and using a button on the pad either push/pull wind CW/CCW etc. With DCS you need to map some additional HOTAS functions but I don't feel I am limited necessarily with the controller compared with the Warthog (especially when using a couple of buttons as modifiers, which effectively double or triple the number of buttons on the controller). With civvy flying it is not an issue at all, and I feel a more realistic interface when compared with a huge list of keyboard bindings. When I'm flying an XP11 Pa-28 I am using the same movements and scans as I would in a real Pa-28 (apart from the physical manipulation of the flying controls of course).

It’s actually the most realistic scenery out of any sim but you need good internet for the scenery to keep up over cities if you’re going fast.

All you’re doing is basic flying around in google earth. I think it’s great though.
