Seems reasonable.

Waits for direct $ - £ pricing transfer.

Which I must say, is pretty cheap

It’s not as powerful as the Series x though right?

In between the Xbox one x and series x?

X is more powerful and outputs 4k.. The One X and S are being discontinued, so it will now just be the Series S and Series X.

Microsoft couldn't have come up with more confusing naming if they tried.

Staggering isn’t it.

So the Series S (the new one) doesn’t even do 4K even though the current gen does?

I don't think anything has been confirmed. But it is expected to be on par with the current One X in terms of performance.

Unconfirmed Series X price is $499 https://www.gamesradar.com/au/xbox-series-x-releas...

As the S is $299/£249, maybe £449 for the X?

(I know there's a bit of crossposting going on between the PS and Xbox threads but hey ho).

Seems an odd choice but there must be a market for detuned console at a lower price otherwise they wouldn’t have bothered.

The finance options seem the bigger thing to me. Everyone buys everything on tick now so having your Xbox paid for like your phone will be attractive to a lot of people.

So the series S will be the casual gamer setup where you have no hard copy games only digital - so if you sell the console does that mean it’s just the console or will all the games you’ve bought be then transferred to the new owner.

The games would be on your Xbox Live account

They seem to be pushing the gamer scheme don't they though...

You won't end up 'owning' any games. Just laying a monthly subscription for the box, live access and whichever games you want to play

How does it hold the game locally or is it all downloaded as you play ?

Up in the air until the Series S details and specs are out. I'd guess it had a hard drive for game storage (SSD on the Series X). They might push the xCloud streaming gaming though, so that would stream the game to your console (or phone/tablet) etc, similar to Google Stadia.

So if - as it’s an 8 year min horizon with these things - I gave my console to one of the kids and then bought another one 6 years later and my Xbox live account is clearly in my new system would that mean they then have zero games and have to either log in as me or rebuy.

If so the Xbox series X is the one to go for.

With the One, if your account is on that system then someone else can use their account to play them, so presumably it will be the same for the Series X. If a game gets delisted then you can still download it, although don't know if that will change if they move to Cloud storage.

I haven’t bought a physical game for years. Digital just makes sense.

Big caveat - if you have a fast internet connection. Without one it’s a bad choice albeit most games require insane amounts of updates these days anyway to be fair.

The passing down consoles to kids angle must be incredibly rare in terms of choosing physical disks surely.

Any game you purchase for digital only is tied in to your Xbox Live account, so it should be yours for life. I've got a couple of games I downloaded on my Xbox One that I purchased for my Xbox 360 over 10 years ago! laugh so if you were to give your Xbox to your kids, provided they log in with your account those games are still available to them. You just can't transfer them to another account as far as I'm aware.

You don't have to use the same account, just the same console. I have my older One upstairs with a backup account, and it's possible to play the same game simultaneously using both accounts.

Oh right, that's even better then actually, I thought it was tied in to my account because of what I said.

I was impressed when I logged in to my Xbox One and saw that my games could be downloaded again.

Interesting - for older games presumably? We have the Xbox One, will be getting one of the next gens and I'd planned on moving the existing xBox upstairs, so by doing that anything we have for it now will be available on both? Never been clear on how this works.
