Picked up a cheap 2TB SATA SSD from Crucial (Amazon Prime Day offer), £135:

... Certainly not the best performer for general purpose use in a PC but absolutely fine to use as a game loading drive over USB connection for Xbox.
what are you using to connect it to the Xbox USB? It's a PC internal 2.5" drive. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07YD5F561/

Yep - already have one as I bought it to put my old PS4 Pro drive in when I replaced it with a Hybrid SSD/HDD ..... will need to check that this a good performing one as DF tested a couple and some were noticeably better than others. But it works really well with the old Playstation HDD as a USB3 external drive so hopefully won't need to drop 15-25 on another caddy.hyphen said:

Looking to buy a Series X not on the pass deal that is offered. As I have live already and doing the one pound upgrade. Can't see any available anywhere, I guess no idea when they will be available for pre-order again?
I dont think there will be another one now, probably best to check places on launch day I would assume they would have physical stock somewhereIf you are anywhere near London I reckon the MS Store would be a good bet

I see people buying external hard drives to use over usb.... You are aware that xbox x optimised games CANNOT be played from an external drive (unless its one of the offical m$ expansion drives)??
I thought that was odd. For the nice way it slots into the card slot I'd rather pay the extra.R32 said:

You can still store them on it and just transfer onto the xbox when you want to use them however. For the sake of either 2-8 minutes depending on drive type it doesnt really make buying the expansion drive just yet as you dont exactly need all your games instantly playable at the same time."Moving Origins from an external SSD to an internal SSD took only 2 minutes and 18 seconds. The inverse, going from internal SSD to external SSD, took 4 minutes and 33 seconds. Probably most important, transferring from an external HDD to an internal SSD took 7 minutes and 46 seconds. Finally, moving from internal SSD to external HDD took 10 minutes and 36 seconds."
Edit: To add to this you can buy a 2tb ssd off amazon for £200 and an adapter for under £20 giving you twice the storage for the same price. So assuming you can wait the whole 2 minutes to transfer a game you can store twice as much
