Just saw that the Series S only runs the One S versions of older titles whereas the Series X runs the One X version - so a lot of stuff stuck on 900p on the Series S even though it should have the grunt to do full 1080/60. Glad I cancelled my preorder now, the Series X is the one to have even if you only have a 1080p TV.
But ..... now seeing reports that the PS5 back compat and enhancement of older PS4 titles is pretty much on par with Xbox Series X and its enhancement/compatibility with Xbox One stuff .... so might actually go for PS5 instead and get the benefit of better performance on my big existing library of PS4 stuff.

No rush, I'm happy to wait well into 2021 and maybe see if Sony will bring out a PS5 revision that doesn't look like a huge eye of Sauron.

Hmmm.. Had Dirt5 on preorder from Amazon. Due for delivery today, showing as expected today right up until this morning i get a note saying it'll be January!
Not holding out much hope for next week if that's how they deal with pre-orders!
Have you got the all access pass? That should give you so much to get your teeth into. Not holding out much hope for next week if that's how they deal with pre-orders!

I can't help but worry that Sony is just playing catch up, first it was that you would have to pay for upgrades and now it's free and all of a sudden the library is growing. I never trust that kind of behaviour. "When we've dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much. That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?"
- Jim Ryan, Sony’s head of global sales and marketing back in 2017.
Xbox has had it since 2015 now so not like he was speaking before microsoft had released it.
Playstation is 100% trying to play catchup, they have some major issues in making older gen stuff work on the new gen, something to do with the games and architecture of the consoles. Basically they are trying to make all ps4 titles work, where as xbox has games from all generations working on it so you cant really say they are close to being on par in the backwards compatability department.
Stolen from wiki but seems accurate list as it names every game.
There are 577 games that have been made backward compatible out of 2084 that have been released for Xbox 360.
There are currently 42 on this list out of 1001 released for the Xbox.
Thats over 600 games from previous generations plus every game from the xbox one generation. The series x is also using AI learning to add HDR into older games along with the standard 4k/improved fps/quick resume.

Are there going to be many games initially that will actually run at full 4k and 120hz?
Or will it be a case of developers getting the hang of things for a year or two and releasing them
trying to decide to get a new gaming monitor with 4k / 144hz
It's a mixture of 4K, 120Hz and ray-tracing on current/new games. The link below has a list of games and their associated abilities:Or will it be a case of developers getting the hang of things for a year or two and releasing them

I'm sure with time we will see more 4K/120Hz games.
Also, no ray-tracing on Valhalla?!

I have series x with gamepass subscription being delivered on Tuesday. Are there any absolute must have launch title games not on gamepass? Or will there be plenty on gamepass to not worry about buying anything else?
Depends on what you have played recently I guess, I've currently got Forza Horizon 4 and Batman that I'm playing on GPGears 5 will be downloaded on new console when it comes and I've ordered AC Valhalla
