Streets of Rage 4
Discussion
I remember playing all the previous versions of Streets of Rage growing up, absolutely loved them!
For anyone using game pass on the Xbox, it’s just been added to it for download.
I am so looking forward to the in game music for this, I believe it’s from the same guy that done the previous ones. Should bring back a load of memories.
nobody else liking the game?
I've played thorugh it a few times, but watched lots of people play it.
One note on the final boss. A good way of cheesing it (doing the last boss easy) is carrying a weapon (such as the mace) through with you to the final boss. One boss isn't considered a human/character, and as such the mace doesn't get destroyed after x-number of hits. Seen many people use this method when it comes to speedrunning the game.

Bought it on Switch before realising it's also on XB gamepass. Love it. Amazing nostalgia, love the art style - it really feels like it has DNA of the original.
Also a nice touch to unlock the old characters & have the original music. Currently playing through as SOR2 Axel. Aya-ta ta!

For anyone who still plays this, they've released an patch update for the game with lots of game balancing changes. It's really big, so I'm not going to paste it here.

How does this compare with the earlier games?
My wife and I play Streets of Rage 2 on the PS4 loads- it definitely feels the most well rounded of the original 3 in my opinion. Would love to hear how this one compares to 2 from anyone who has played both!
I've been watching some gameplay videos and it does look a lot of fun- I like how it looks like they have carried over the same style of pickups and character / enemy design etc.
We are both off work next week for some annual leave, so I'm thinking this could be a great time to try this out

It is fantastic, SOR2 was my favourite of the series and played that to death on the megadrive as a kid. This has quite a bit more depth to it in terms of the combos and the old characters are there if you want to use them. Highly recommended as a big fan of the series. My wife and I play Streets of Rage 2 on the PS4 loads- it definitely feels the most well rounded of the original 3 in my opinion. It plays fine. in SOR2 you lose a tiny bit of life from using your special, that happens in this however the chunk that's taken off is green, you can then recover the health back from hitting enemies with your normal attacks. get hit though and the green bar is gone and you can't recover that health you lose from using your special.
if you like any of the SOR games give it a go. even if you aren't a fan of some of the characters after playing through the story afew times you'll unlock the original characters (you unlock SOR1 first, then it goes to SOR2, and finally SOR3).

Do you start with any of the original characters on a first time playthrough?
You start off with the SOR4 characters (which include Axel and blaze) then as you play and rack up a overal game points you unlock the retro characters in the order of ..SOR1
SOR 2
and finally SOR3.
If you really want to see the order of each character being unlocked you can see it here
The only retro characters you don't unlock are Roo and Ash.

We normally use Axel & Blaze anyway, but it's great that you can unlock the others. I do also like Skate and Adam.

Absolutely loving this game, most playable retro thing I have ever seen on Xbox. Beat the crap out of the commisioner today
I haven't quite worked out how heath gets restored yet but I know it has something to do with roast chicken.
'big health' (like a roast chicken) restores all healthI haven't quite worked out how heath gets restored yet but I know it has something to do with roast chicken.
'small health' (like an apple) restores 300HP (a third) of your health
each time you use a special move (not star move) you lose some health, the amount lost is shown as a green bar in your health bar. You can recover this by hitting enemies normally. If you get hit however the green bar that you can gain the health back is lost.
You will notice this on stage 8 and stage 12 that you start with a chunk of your health 'lost' and green. you can recover it all back to normal. just don't get hit!
There are other common sense things too. such as if you have good health, don't use a health pickup until either
1- your health is low and you fear dying
2- you've cleared all enemies frrom the screen and are going to move to the next.
an unwritten rule also is to reserve any health for the person who is on their last life. if you have the same amount of lives, whoever has the least health should pick it up.
For anyone who hasn't seen it, DLC was confirmed 3 weeks ago, 3 characters added too, Estel being the first one confirmed (you can guess who the other 2 by the silouettes)
