£65 for NBA 2k21 on the store. This is why I'll be getting a console with a disc drive!
I would expect that the games will be more expensive for a while given the extra power of the machine and I presume the increase in programming required to use it....

There was an article I saw the other day that said prices were going to go up £10 for games.

This wasn't it, but says the same thing: https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/01/ps5-games-will-like...

Can't see it becoming the norm myself, they'll price out half the market at £65 a pop. For games like GTA and Fallout they can justify the extra £10, but for sports games which hardly change year after year? No chance.

With a disc drive too at least you can get the bargains from GAME, CEX, TheHut etc.

Difficult to say really as I see COD etc offered at 90 plus sometimes for certain versions etc.

Personally I tend to wait for a game to come down to a "reasonable" price and generally won't pay £50 etc ( as you note there are exceptions, Fallout being one of them!)

£65 is only the start for games like NBA 2K, they're pretty much just a glorified casino where you can spend thousands in real money on stuff that becomes worthless as soon as the new game is released. No wonder the Lords wants them classed as gambling, because that's what it is.

Early adopters get financially screwed.

Bundle deals for the consoles wont be so good. Games will be expensive as wont be many to choose from.

Once ps4 is dying, will all level out

£65 for a game is good value if you calculate the cost per hour of entertainment compared with, say, going to the cinema.

The trick is knowing which games are worthy of your £65.

Yes exactly. I've put more than 60 hours on Fallout. £1 per hour or less, bargain.

Just give us the price ffs! Microsoft have a presentation on the 23rd, I fully expect this to be about games and not the price point...

They did release this, which is nice, but the most significant announcement is the merging of Game Pass Ultimate and Cloud X - https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/07/16/players-fir...

They're making all the right noises so far over at Microsoft.

Launch is still very far away they need to keep consumers eager interested wondering and spreading gossip Xbox cheaper than PS - when we know no facts at all. It’s probable and given so many are saying it we have this locked in memory trigger now.
You also do want to show what it can do first wow the customer they think it’s going to be cheaper then the games are stunning and wide ranging and here now then accessories then price

OR they may do what Sony did with the PS1 launch an expected long presentation, instead he himself confirmed he had the presentation ready to go but on the walk up to the stage he changed his mind and memorably said 3 words “two nine nine” hundreds of $ lower than anyone had expected. The media storm that caused was massive and it’s still a remarkable launch simple so effective.

Also for you marketing types “power of three” is used again in that simple announcement so right on cue.

PS4 controllers will only work with backwards compatible PS4 games on PS5, they won't be compatible with PS5 games. Probably because of the Dualsense parts of the PS5 controller with haptic feedback and trigger resistance that the PS4 controller can't emulate.

PS4 controller standard price is £50 at Argos/Curry's etc, the PS5 Dualsense will probably be more.

I don't get why people are making such a big deal of this, old controllers are barely ever compatible with a new system. Only example I can think of is ps1 pads working with the ps2. Side plates will apparently be interchangeable as well, which is good seeing as everything on my TV unit is black.

I agree, I don't get why it is such a big deal.

It may well be because of Microsoft. If I recall, the Xbox One controller is fully compatible with the Series X. Although the Series X controller is quite similar to the One/Elite.

I was going to ask, as I couldn’t recall controllers being backwardly compatible... I’ve always assumed I’ll need to buy new ones when upgrading, at any rate! That said, I generally only need one so it’s not much of a problem for me. smile

Yeah me either, I'd want matching controllers anyway and most of the time there will be bundles including extra peripherels for a few extra quid.

Hopefully they make them where the rubber on the thumb sticks don't break away after playing for a long time like the PS4 ones.
