Anyone else not impressed with the PS5 so far?
Discussion
9pm GMT tonight on youtube the PS5 launch event by Sony.
That could be a fake price we will see however it’s in all the press this morning. If that is the case that is really strong cash.
Lastly it’s for late November not now so I cannot see one price for Nov and then a drop for Xmas.

High launch price for the die hards, then offers at Christmas?
I imagine we’ll find out tonight, but it does list a 2TB HD - could this be the most expensive version, with a 1TB and 2TB options at, or after, launch similar to the current 500GB and 1TB versions available for the PS4?PS4 launch price in 2013 was £349, roughly £400 today allowing for inflation, so this is certainly a higher price than the previous generation...

Was thinking about this a bit recently. As someone who's switched between Nintendo, Sony and MS for console choice - currently have a Switch Lite and an X1 - I'm thinking about investing my £500 in to a PC to run some games. I don't need some mega resolution 8k set-up, but I feel I miss out on stuff that's on PC, or only possible on PC - ie, wreckfest mods - over console.

Is it though? People pay that for a phone now, that they upgrade every 2 years. It's £25 per month over 2 years, people pay a lot more than that for phones and I would imagine that if you buy a PS5 now you'll have it for a lot longer than 2 years.cheesewotsit said:

Having ordered a £1500 gaming PC recently (then cancelled it because I realised I honestly didn’t need it) I think you’ll be very disappointed in what £500 might get you in terms of a gaming PC. £500 won’t play anything near PS5 or X1X levels of games. The graphics card alone in the one I was buying GTX 2070 Super was something like £500 on its own. And it wasn’t anywhere near the top of the tree.

They pay £25pm for phones and that is it.Paying £600 for a console and then £50 for a game every month or two (which if digital can't be sold afterwards on ebay) is different. Plus additional controllers and any other accessories.
People will pay, just less of them.

The Xbox lost out in total sales largely because the Japanese wouldn't buy it.
The PS3 at launch was a bit of a disaster .... overpriced and late and quite polarising design. However it was a technical tour de force, at least the initial model was. They cut out large chunks of functionality later on to compete price-wise with Xbox360.
When the PS3 was announced I was excited but as they delayed it, cut the specs and upped the price I became more and more apathetic. I didn't buy one until *much* later (not helped by the Xbox360 being out a year earlier which we bought[1]). [1] And went through three warranty replacements before buying a second one when the original finally became massively unstable. It will work for about 15-20minutes then crash. Probably heat related. I CBA to fix it.
I'd be amazed if people are only paying £25 a month for a phone
Regardless I think a lot will still upgrade, a number of my mates are in the same position as me, I have PS4 and Xbox One S both purchased as at the time I didn't have a 4K TV. When I got one last year it seemed pointless changing both consoles 12 months away from the next gen being released
Both will be going and I'll be getting the PS5, not too fussed about launch titles, still happily playing certain games and new stuff will come
Once I have the PS5 I am set for however long until the next release

I actually thought the PS3 to PS4 was a step backwards in some ways but understand why they went back to a almost solely games focused console. I loved the media capabilities of the PS3.
My PS3 is still plugged in. Use it for blue ray, Amazon prime and well I can play games on it but not very often at all. None are online enabled again.

A 2070 Super is overkill if all he wants to do is tinker with mods on games that aren't that demanding.
