Got this in the steam sale,it looks a lot of fun,but wtf with the lazy port ? There are almost no instructions about the controls if you are using mouse/keyboard,no ability to assign buttons ,really shoddy stuff.
I just had to download a guide to what keys do what ,so irritating when you see good game spoilt by lazy ports.

At first it took me a while to get used to how they've changed MGS into a sandbox game, but now I have, I can say for sure this is a truly brilliant game! Its still jam packed full of sweet little touches and weird quirks like every MGS (and Silent Hill) game, and still feels IMO, 100% like MGS. The way they've got real 80's music playing on ghetto blasters is a great touch man, theres just something special about sneaking through a heavily guarded base to extract a POW, then 'True' by Spandau Ballet starts playing. Somehow it fits perfectly with sneaking around, knocking people out and makes it feel like you're playing through the scenes of a movie.
The gameplay feels really solid too, its all really intuitive and only has a few rough edges that are easy to forgive. The writing and voice acting is SPOT on too, it makes you really feel for the characters and the struggles they're going through. Yea, I guess this'll be the last REAL MGS, but atleast they went all out with their final stab at the series! I can hardly think of anything I really don't like about the game, and that, is fking rare in this generation of games!

Not impressed with how the later missions are copies of other ones and include the same cut scenes which don’t make sense in the context of the story .The gameplay feels really solid too, its all really intuitive and only has a few rough edges that are easy to forgive. MGS:V is hands down my favorite game in the series, and I've played them all.
However, I've never taken to the storyline of MGS with the whole supernatural element across all of the games. The Man on Fire section at the beginning was almost enough for me to put down the game completely, let alone having to fight the Skulls in Mission 6 - but I stuck with it and it was a very rewarding experience.

I played it like an absolute lunatic for the first 4 weeks, started to taper off a bit, then heard about the Quiet stuff towards the end before they patched in a 'fix' and that sort of put me off.
Didn't play it again until about 4 weeks ago when I went back to complete it, finally. Turns out I only had about 3 'missions' to do (as in actual ones, not replays of earlier ones), it managed to get its claws in to me again in terms of wanting to finish off all the side ops and extracting S+ rank soldiers etc., the PF battles I had something like 2.8 million points as it's just been playing online automatically for years, so splurged on a bunch of S++ etc. soldiers
To be honest over all of the years, I'd forgotten the depth of the game in terms of weapon development, your base, staff, PF battles, online FOB deployments (which I never did), combat deployments and so on, there really is a lot to the game and I find the controls brilliantly fluid. Once the story was completed I did a fair few of the Side Ops by turning off all of the HUD and any indicators etc. so you had to actually listen and look for enemies, immediately transformed the experience and certainly as a few hours of something different it was very enjoyable.
The cutscenes etc. being totally irrelevant to the context of the game are very odd once you're having to replay stuff. Realistically I suspect Kojima liked the idea of the game being like a TV series where you rewatch episodes etc. I mean the guy is obviously insane so what can you expect really

MGS has gone all political now with Big Boss starting his own campaign/party:

MGS ended at IV for me. V was a mess IMO and had none of the typical MGS humour or weirdness about it. It was just another open world bore fest.
Go here, collect this, go there, collect that.
I never made it to the end which is a shame as I played and replayed the others to death. I must’ve played the MGS 2 demo about 50 times before I actually got to sink my teeth into the full game.
V was hugely disappointing.
