Is the Nintendo Switch any good?

I've been playing Super Mario Kart with my kids on my SNES mini console.
We were browsing Youtube videos when we saw gameplay of Mariokart 8 which looks amazing. It's not available on XBox One of course.
Is the Switch worth getting if I already have an XBox as my main console?
So did you buy one yet? We have been plying mariokart loads in the last week.We were browsing Youtube videos when we saw gameplay of Mariokart 8 which looks amazing. It's not available on XBox One of course.

I’m curious whether those who sold theirs on quickly got almost full price, they held their value well it seems over lockdown
I'm 40, I have one and I love it.
BOTW, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Hollow Knight and of course Mario Kart.
If I'm having a lie in it's Witcher 3, if there's a few of us having a beer it's Mario Kart on the cinema telly.
It's a cracking piece of kit. The sheer flexibility of solo/group/co-op/online as well as TV/handheld options are amazing. Battery lasts ages IMO!
Don't regret buying it for one second.

Interesting thread, so I hope I don't gate crash too much....
My lad (nearly 8) and wife want to buy a Switch. Main pressure seems to be from my wife, as a couple of my lads friends have a switch.
So, I loved having a playstation 3 before kids. I loved gran turismo, mgs etc. - this started with a PS1 and initially with a ZX81!!
My lad plays with the Wii a little ( mainly Lego Star wars and SSX tricky). But he uses his tablet for Minecraft and adopt me etc. more frequently.
My wife never plays on consoles!!
So, will a Switch be the best option? Or should I go for a PS4?? ( I know ps5 is out soon!)
TIA
Mike

About to buy a switch OLED for the boy although I know nothing about them. Have read some stuff on the Nintendo website but what's the user experience/opinion regarding games? Is it best to buy the physical game (assume you plug it in/load it somewhere) or download the games from the online subscription?
If I just sign up for the online account, does that provide enough games without having to shell out ££ buying games individually?
Users of our switch won't be hardcore 'gamers' and it's just a bit of family fun.

Unless you do the VPN to pretend to be in Brazil or India (or similar for cheap games) prob better buying physical games so you can resell them.If I just sign up for the online account, does that provide enough games without having to shell out ££ buying games individually?

First party Nintendo games hold value best.
Rocket league was cheap and cheerful download game.
I think the online access just gives retro games.
Ordered one earlier this week and should get in tomorrow, need to pick up Just Dance as that's the game we played at a friends house and got the little lady into the idea of a games machine we can both play. (Xbox is just for me and online gaming).
I was a big fan of Advanced/Dual Wars on the DS-Lite so will have to add that to the list.
I'm most excited and it's been a while since I've looked forwards to an electronic purchase.

Still loving ours. Youngest is now about to get one for his birthday (OLED version...we have some long haul to do later in the year so will be handy having one each).
Minecraft Dungeons is the current favourite now. 51 Games also gets a bit of a look. Fifa is still a big hit (though very annoying that they haven't updated the Switch version for years, just the kits for your £40).
I played Pikmin ages ago on (I think) the Cube? May well get that and Splatoon for the boys.
We still don't bother connecting ours to the internet.
Downsides? Can't play movies on it, which is criminal.

I would say that splatoon 2 is (to my mind) only really fun online, it does have offline mode which is okay for kids. The online 4 vs 4 format is where it’s at though. And as you ascend ranks of ranked matches the skill level is pretty unforgiving at the top.
The kids have their own account to allow them to enjoy it against suitable rankings also

i have one but its for the kids imo.
it depends on your taste of games. the kids do go on it - animal crossing is popular in our house even though i cant see the point in the game lol.
mario's always go down well as does minecraft.
i got them zelda breath of the wild which is meant to be one of the best games ever - it remains unplayed.

Not used ours on the internet, it's really for my daughter. We put in a lot of hours on Animal Crossing but got bored by the lack if updates, and I elt we were probably missing out on a lot not being on the internet.
It's saving grace, however, has been Untitled Goose Game, which is possibly the most enjoyable laugh out loud game I have ever played.

We have one Switch in the house. With my profile and my sons. I have bought all our goes for download from my profile and this Switch is obviously my primary console, we have an online family group sub as well.
thinking of buying an OLED Switch for me today as we are off on holiday and have a long flight and transfer.
Will our downloaded games work on both Switches? Would we be able to play multiplayer over the two Switches with just one paid download of a game?

I'm absolutely no expert but have been reading about this recently. Not sure if this answers the question or not ....from the Nintendo website (which is a bit contradictory in my opinion):thinking of buying an OLED Switch for me today as we are off on holiday and have a long flight and transfer.

Can I link my Nintendo Account to more than one Nintendo Switch console?
You can link your Nintendo Account to multiple consoles. You can play digital games you've purchased on any Nintendo Switch console.
Please note that you can register one primary console per Nintendo Account. Once you've registered a primary console, your digital purchases can be played by anyone that uses the primary console. Other players will not be able to access your digital games on a non-primary console.

I'm wondering if a family group account would allow playing of games on 2 devices?
