What sort of cars do you lot most like driving and why?
Skip Barber - slower, but concentration needed to go fast.GT3 and GT4 - I like GT racing.
More relevant for me though is finding a community or group of people who are able to race without a: getting upset and sweary and b: constantly smashing into each other. Then race what they race.
https://gbrcracing.com/ I race with these guys, It's Playstation and GTS

Car-wise, I prefer racings the GTE's and of course oval racing.
Well, I've decided that given the ongoing war on GFX card prices that I can't justify building a full rig until I can get a full blown gaming PC at a decent price.
I've ended up buying an i9 NUC with a 2070 that I can have in the living room media unit where I'll likely use it quite a lot. So far my shopping list is:
Next Level Racing FGT Lite
Logitech G923 w/ gearshift
Oculus Quest 2
Random bluetooth keyboard w/ track pad
Xbox wireless controller
With that I should have ok performance in a package that I can fold and store away when not using. It will also get used as a gaming PC on the tv hence the controller. The Quest 2 should be good fun for a decent price and i'm hoping that performance will be ok for some sim games as well.
I did spend some time on the Fanatec website but the CSL Elite base v1.1 is out of stock and they can't give an estimated re-stock date. I looked at Thrustmaster but didn't like the look of their offerings either without spending a grand on their better models.

They might be concentrating on production of the new Direct Drive wheel that's due later this year?https://www.gtplanet.net/fanatec-reveals-csl-dd-20...

Yes I understand this might be the case. However not even having their base model in stock with no idea of when they will get more is a bit strange. https://www.gtplanet.net/fanatec-reveals-csl-dd-20...
On another note, I ended up changing my mind after watching a half dozen review and comparison videos. I ended up just going for the Thrustmaster TMX PRO and the gearshift instead of the Logitech G923. I'm not expecting anything incredible from it but I know I could throw it up on eBay or gift it to someone without worrying about the cost too much.

Marginal utility on all the gear I have now was de minimus vs the step up from a game pad to my Thrustmaster wheel and pedals. I also find that when I’m immersed in iRacing, I don’t pay any attention to the rig I’m sat in - I’m just trying to win the race! Hi All,
Been going through the forum and thanks for the fantastic advice on this.
I am starting to build my own now (late to the party, yes).
You all have done some amazing work here, but unfortunately, I don't have a lot of time so I have been thinking of getting something that is as prebuilt as can be
Been thinking about either the playseat F1 or the sparco evolve GP as a start and then getting the equipment around it. (Unless you think something else is more worthy)
I don't plan to add any motion or anything but would definitely like to get a fanatec wheelbase, wheel and pedals.
Thanks in advance.

Almost forgot about this thread. Been having loads of fun playing iRacing, Assetto Corsa and using my Oculus Quest 2 for VR is just amazing.
Will soon be banished to the man cave outside and will have to organise for a monitor stand and some cheaper monitors.
The F-GT lite chair is decent for someone who needs to pack up their rig and store it away. It is not light or easy to shift about. Although I did make it harder for myself by not removing the wheel base and pedals before stowing it away. It's sturdy enough though some taller folks that tried it did feel cramped in by the wheel base mount.
Highlights so far have been installing all the graphics and weather mods for AC and running the LA canyons map in an Alpha GTV in VR. Just awesome. Even though the Oculus Quest is only 90 degrees FOV it still is really immersive. I think I say for at least 5 minutes in the car with the engine just burbling away in the background, the rain pattering off the windscreen just soaking in the atmosphere.
Old school open seat Lotus racing round historic tracks in VR is great fun as well!

My set up is fairly basic, T300 wheel with Fanatec V3 pedals, Playseat challenge and the Pimax 5k+ for VR.
PC is i9/3080 based and flies. Out of sight is a 110" cinema screen.
Terrible picture.
I mostly play iRacing (got a formula Vee win last night) the lad plays F1 on the big screen.
At the weekend I tried out a 3 screen Sim-Rigs set up and it was great, the Fanatec wheel nearly had my arms off. I need one, maybe one of the new lower cost ones.
Then junior can have the Thrustmaster and we can race together.

Hello. I've a "what PC?" question.
I have an Oculus 2, a Playseat and a Logitec G920 wheel/pedal combo. I play the usual stuff on an XBox series X.
Of course, I can't use the VR with my xbox. So, I'd like to buy a PC to give it a go.
I'm aware that PC video cards and other internals are sky high in price at the moment. I know nothing more about gaming PCs.
Can you suggest a PC that can I buy off the shelf, plug in my peripherals and play Assetto Corsa, iracing etc?
I really don't want to spend more than £1000 and would be delighted to spend far less.
Thank you.

Overclockers have a 'VR' ready PC for 950. I can't comment on the performance.

Not for that budget, at least at the moment unless you can pick up a good second hand rig.I have an Oculus 2, a Playseat and a Logitec G920 wheel/pedal combo. I play the usual stuff on an XBox series X.

VR is very finickity about frame rates, anything less than 80 (ideally 90) is a bit vomit inducing. You want high res and smooth for racing.
I was successfully running roomscale VR on OG Vive with an i5 and and a 1080, but had a lot of stuff turned down on iracing and PCars ran like a dog almost unplayable.
That 1660 based system might be ok but it's bottom end of what you need.
Ideally a 3060/70/80 platform but that needs double the budget.

Any chance of a breakdown of parts and costs?
I want to build something along these lines hopefully next year.

Suspect I'll be filing for bankruptcy in a few months :-)
