Is it just me that thinks its weird that its 5 months since launch and still no decent games? I don't have a PS5 yet, but the lack of games seems odd.

yep funny how the banks seemed to all do fine working remotely and making money while the tech industry has so many delays - and not just supply chains but in software development
Much bank work is probably the very definition of transactional, so simpler to keep doing that whilst remote.Software dev and games dev in particular is more creative, requires more collaboration, and as dependencies/complexity increases then is impacted more by remote working.
My own software teams (not games) have delivered good work during lockdown, but a lot more effort has been required to make sure the dependencies are properly understood, shared and delivered. We are probably ~20% behind our original plan and everyone is much busier and more stressed.
ANYWAY.....back to PS5 - has anyone replaced their gaming PC with a console and how do you find it? This would become my main gaming device and will be easier to find and cheaper than an unobtainium graphics card.
Do most games support mouse and keyboard? The thought of having to use a controller in BF6 would be a none starter for me.
Grab one from GAME this morning but just had this email, gutted.

tried to get one from game today, as usual waited, queued electronically for two hours then spat out
after 6 months of trying, am fed up with it, i'm giving my ps4 to my nephew next week so for the first time in over 25 years i'll be without a playstation, right from my original japanese playstation playing ridge racer and battle area toshinden
fed up with them going to flippers, sony could have easily solved this by sending active network accounts a code
whist in the queue today i was looking at the available software and it's not great
i'll wait a year for more software but always possible i'll never come back to

So the scalpers register a new PSN account and sell it with the console then ?whist in the queue today i was looking at the available software and it's not great
Or do we want some sort of qualifying criteria - account has to be 6+ months old say ? so anyone new to playstation (25% of the market according to Sony) isn't allowed to buy one ?
Whats an active account? someone that logged in over the last month ? 2 ? 6 ?
What other arbitrary requirements do we want to introduce ? account has a platinum trophy ? bought a game or two from PSN store ?
Whats to stop scalpers buying hacked accounts and using those ?
How are you going to get retailers to check and verify someones PSN account and refuse sale if not verified ?
All far too difficult, awkward and expensive.
The big problem is the demand for the thing is sky high - its outsold PS4 over the same time period as its launch and my guess is they could have probably sold twice as many, even without the pandemic caused supply chain issues I doubt they would have been able to fulfill demand.
There is software out there for it, both exclusive games and reworked versions of older games, Reworked Wreckfest for example is free on PSN this month. No, there aren't dozens of games out there, but then, very few if any new consoles launch with that. PS3 and PS4 releases were similar.
The situation is frustrating, but trying to complicate it further isn't going to help.
Try the hotstock app and the youtube feed that SheetsTauber posted a page or two ago. A lot of it is luck to be right place right time.
I would say that GAME are generally poor.
So the solution is if you can't beat them (scalpers) join then (by using their apps and methods for hacking the system).
I find it hard to believe systems cannot be designed to mitigate (not completely avoid) the situation where you have 4 ads on Facebook saying they've got multiples for sale. Yet mutpiles of internet posts saying they can't get hold of stock.

Hotstock and the like just show availability of a product, they do not auto buy. Secondly, you're buying for yourself, not to sell on - I can't really see that as "joining them".
They're just an automated version of you sat there pressing the F5 button waiting for the "out of stock" marker to disappear.
PC World run a lottery system, so you can't just buy even if you wanted to.
I think its very difficult to stop, unless you create expensive logistical and operational problems.

I am as annoyed as anyone but there's not a lot you can do is there? It'll get easier as each drop passes as you'll be competing against less and less people, although this might change slightly as we get closer to Christmas. The games aren't even really out yet, we've only had 1 or 2, they'll start coming towards the end of the year though.
Thankfully my brother managed to nab one yesterday, so we'll have at least one in the household now. Although I am moving out in the next 10-12 weeks or so, so I best make the most of it whilst I can.

Surely Ebay could help by setting a maximum price for PS5 listings. It's only one way of selling, but it would still make the scalper's life more difficult.
Is price fixing legal ?In any case, what responsibility does ebay have to do so ? why would they do a bunch of work to earn less money from a listing ?
As above, it sucks, but there isn't much that can be done really.

Why would they care? If ebay capped then the scalpers would switch to other sales sites and ebay would lose the sales.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
