I only ever had my health flask in that slot, then bound to the triangle/Y slots I had mana on the right, physick on the left, torrent for up and then my summon on down.

That meant heal was always available and the other common items I used were quickly accessible too.

I didn't, as I didn't want to end up using something other than my healing flask. Guide here on the quick items list and how to use it

"Since the game does not pause"

If you didn't know that's not quite true, for a time & action pause bring up the help menu and then select the Menu explanation.

FINALLY!! 17 hours in and I can FINALLY kill things.

Getting BloodHounds Fang has been a game changer for me.

Just done Castle Morne, killed the boss guy at the end only to find some comedian has put a message bang on the Grace so you can't touch/rest at it, not that it matters, doubt I'll need to go there again.

Woohoo!

Right, better do some work.....

I found walking away a little comes up with the prompt, I had the exact same thing there, clowns.

That happened to me too. I've never used the Bloodfang sword, I levelled up the Hookclaw and Claymore quite quickly and I've stuck with them since.

There's a bunch of other weapons I'd like to try but I'm having trouble finding low level smithing stones to level them up.

you can just buy them when you get the bells to trade with the woman at the table thingy but obviously this depends on if you can defeat the people to get them

Play offline if that's happened. I play offline all the time.

You will probably find in that instance that the trigger for finding the site of grace is offset slightly from its position. I noticed the same on one the other day, a message right on top, and spent ages trying to "override" it, only to find the activation point for the grace was actually a few steps away.

Cheers on the controller tip. I don’t have a working controller but a USB Xbox controller is £30 so not too bad.

Tempted to get the PS5 controller though as I don’t really like the feel of the XBox controller.

I’m only few hours in but I find it enjoyable. This is my first experience of such a game. RDR2, Assassin’s Creed and Outriders were probably the most recent games I’ve played which is close to the genre. I think ER could be a bit daunting for a newbie but if you persist it is rewarding.

It’s funny how this game gets under your skin. I was just about ready to put it down as I hadn’t progressed for a while and I figured I’d hit my skill limit. Decided I’d have another shot at the draconic tree sentinel to get into the capital. Spent about 30 mins figuring out the rhythm and now I’m in the city and back on board laugh

Did you try to ride torrent? I can't remember if that is possible in that particular boss fight for sure (I think it is) but that could get you under/behind the giant and close quite easily.

Nice - that is what this game is all about. What seems impossible is just a puzzle of sorts and once you work it out you get the satisfaction of moving on. I killed the same horseback sentinel yesterday. Took me a few goes and I had him to one hit to go a few times and he got me with that lightening strike he does that just nails you from the air. Worked it out eventually as it is better with a slightly different technique now I am playing a faith character rather than strength and Dex.

I found that smashing him with Lions Claw until he goes into that phase and then jumping on my horse and charge attacking him did the trick.

I'm contemplating a respec as there are a couple of daggers I want to try that have int and arcane requirements.

This is such a great thread. So many folks’ comments resonate. I find the game wilfully obtuse, irritatingly vague (I’ve lost count of the number of quests I’ve not furthered as none of them are recorded anywhere - and I do genuinely feel that’s a mistake by From) and of course it’s punishingly hard. But….it totally gets under your skin. I find myself at work, wondering if I should stick with my upgraded grafted greatsword or switch to the ponderously slow but utterly lethal giant-crusher hammer. Should I continue down into Nokron, or spend more time in the Liurnia sections i glossed over? The landscapes, the enemies, the strategies…it becomes totally addictive and when you take it away….you feel you’re missing something.

At the weekend I finally got to Starscourge Radahn, a battle I’ve been dreading but building up to for weeks. And beat him first time. To be clear, there’s no skill on my part - I’ve farmed that chicken run like a demon and am hugely levelled up, so I know the achievement is massively diminished, but still, I found myself punching the air in total delight and excited to see what comes next. Few games have that impact, on me anyway.

It’ll never top TLOU 1 or Witcher 3 for me, but it’s easily my favourite game over the past few years. What an incredible achievement of a game.
