I'm around 50 hours in now. level 68. Just defeated Radahn.
I can see why people are not attracted to this game necessarily when they first start but when you put the effort in and start to piece it all together (it isn't spoon fed but you do get there yourself in the end, rewarding your effort), its a seriously layer on layer masterpiece of gameplay and lore. It's completely vague and confusing to start with but eventually it starts to all make sense and you see what they have done here.
Who else other than Robijo and FourWheelDrift have stuck with it?

I'm about 14 hours in myself, just bested Godrick, though I'm playing a spellsword. It's fantastic and one of those games I find myself thinking of when I'm not playing, deciding what I'm going to do next.
Unlike the likes of Horizon: Forbidden West that I'm also playing through, this feels like each location and secret has been hand placed with care and there's a genuine reward for searching the environments thoroughly, whereas in Horizon all the placements could have been generated by an algorithm.
I can certainly understand the comparisons to Breath of the Wild in that respect and I can already see it being lauded as one of the games of the generation.

I think it’s the fact that the open world is meticulously hand crafted in such a way that certain areas remain hidden unless approaching them from the right way, or really knowing how to explore. There’s just a certain something with the open world design that makes exploring every inch very rewarding. There’s always something unique to be found. I’m finding huge areas I actually missed the first time around, then on top of that the legacy dungeon design is amazing (apart from the sewers under the capital. Whoever designed those is a sadistic bd).
PS - how good is the Radahn fight?

I have a mission to head down into the sewers beneath the capital as I have a key but I am not sure I have found them yet. I have dossed around in the some under ground/arch/waterways but not sure that is the full sewers. PS - how good is the Radahn fight?
As for Radahn, man what a fight. I died so many times until I figured out a few things. No spoilers here, so the rest can just enjoy the fight when they get there.
The Capital city is an amazing environment. Scale and architecture.

After giving up after 5 hours, I sold the game. I bought it again 5 days later as I couldn't shake the feeling I was missing out. I started a new character, although very similar to my first. I now can't put this game down. I'm 52 hours in after 6 days with it. I usually only get a couple of hours max a day to play a game but am averaging 6.5 hours per day with this.
It is not a perfect game but it certainly is exceptional!
The Radahn fight is very good. Took me about 5 goes before I even realised how not to get one shotted right at the start.

This sounds like me, bought it, played 1.5 hours and then refunded on Steam.I started a new character, although very similar to my first. I now can't put this game down. Then kept reading about it and looking at Youtube videos and convinced myself that maybe I should dive in again.
Now with a bit more effort and patience I'm really enjoying myself.

They break ALOT! I mean ALOT!
Mine broke earlier today when it got thrown at the floor after a particularly close Melania attempt Pushed the bumper buttons back in and all is good.....
Some good stories of people perservering and breaking through into enjoying a Souls game.
I found the sewers under the capital city. It is brutal down there. Really enjoyed it and after time have cleared the lot except for one weird multi arm enemy that appears from the floor and can warp round the area.
The more I dig into this game, the better it gets.

I'm still working out how the hell I can teleport a short distance in a fight, some sort of power thing I have perhaps related to the weapon or button combo I press but I'm buggered if I know how I deliberately trigger it.
Oh and thetoughest longest fight I've had was last night, the Decaying Ekzykes Dragon.

Yes, that's it but I couldn't work out how I was triggering it until I just found this "This is an ash of war skill not a dodge which means you do not press b you press left trigger to activate it" Left trigger is my huge 360 swing and roll back attack for the Bloodhound Fang sword I'm using. Which I think means this skill dodge only triggers when I have just swung the sword and before it swings again, which is why it surprises me and I haven't yet deliberately replicated it.

What's really puzzling me now is I don't have Bloodhound's Step in my inventory (just checked, thought I did with the description of it). It must be a glitch, my sword has it's own applied power (spinning slash) and the shield has nothing. Doubly making sure I have looked at the interactive map and where the Bloodhound Step location is not where I have been yet.
