The 'quick wheel' is essential for any kind of 'reload' action...
So if you have more than one magazine for the gun, and they have ammo in, you can just select the other magazine via the quick wheel and do 'combine' and it'll reload. If you have a bolt action rifle or rifle with an internal magazine (or a shotgun) you can just 'combine' the rounds to reload. It's much quicker than using the awful inventory system
There is a 'reload' mechanic that does sort of automatically fish out an appropriate magazine from your inventory, but I've not found it to be 100% trustworthy... I think it's something like aim and then hold down triangle (on the Playstation, so I assume Y on the XBox).
If you don't have a silencer then you'd better hope you hit whoever it is. Also, wind strength / direction will affect the bullet travel, and it will drop over distance, and take the appropriate amount of time to get to them. Most of the rifles / scopes you can use the d-pad to adjust the scope's range to help compensate for this drop, you can get a rangefinder to help with distances. Yes, it really is that complicated There's some comical videos on youtube of people (on PC) sniping people from over a kilometre away, the flight time is ridiculous

Reload is Y on the xbox - works absolutely fine for me. Normally swaps for the next most loaded cartridge.
Did you say ' if you don't have a silencer'? What idiot would do that?
I have used a shotgun in a town without a silencer as a test. It definitely brought all the boys to the yard, quite literally

Aaah... that makes sense.
I parked the lorry in a wall and legged it...
I've now gotten a couple of miles north of Novy Sobor and I have a functioning night vision scope. I'm hopeful of finding some other players at night and having a pop, but I suspect it will end in painful failure.
In my experience the area north of Novy Sobor is pretty quite. West and NW of Novy Sobor is really quite busy I parked the lorry in a wall and legged it...

The industial complex just east of Vybor almost always has a base in it.
Other players in that area will have night vision, I can assure you of that.
There's an army base at Stary Sobor and one just WNW of it which are my normal stopping points for some proper weaponry. I'm a big fan of the SK 59 gun you can usually pick up there (useful for ridding wolves from the world).

I remember my first time hearing some particularly odd animal noises to then enter further into a town to find 3 zombies chasing a cow around
I was also generally scouting out a treeline and spotted a pack of wolves hunting a deer, then killing it, eating it and heading back off into the treeline.
It's quite impressive really, behind the mediocre textures / models and awful UI, there's a really well thought out game

Talking of animal attacks, I was charged by a bear last week. First time I've seen one. Fortunately I had full health and I didn't shoot - so I survived the single charge. I was next to a house too, so was able to get in there once I'd come around, patch myself up and wait a while to recover safely!

I saw some Elk the other day and I was tempted to shoot one and do a big cook up, but I bottled it in the end because of how out in the open I was; I knew an unsilenced shot would probably attract the entire universe.

I'm confused.
If you build a base or bury a crate on one server, will it be there on another? It can't be, can it?
I've also swapped between servers and lost all the gear i had on me,
Burying will not move from one server to another. But if you are going from one official server to another, everything you carry will move (unless you were dying as you switched servers). If you build a base or bury a crate on one server, will it be there on another? It can't be, can it?

Moving from one community server to another is starting fresh each time or it's saved on each server.

I found a big barn in the north and watched a half-dozen players moving several trucks around and filling it with tents...
24 hours in a bush and they all logged out. I've spent half an hour frantically robbing them. Three big tents inside, all loaded to the gunwales with dozens of rifles, ammo, supplies. I'm now running away, fully laden, like a military Mr Creosote.

I'm finding it particularly laggy and choppy today, stuttering when you run about etc.
Is this going to improve if I get a separate hard drive set up, or is this my internet connection?
It's just how poorly optimised the game is, the server is probably laden with a lot of 'stuff' people have crafted etc. since the last server clear. Is this going to improve if I get a separate hard drive set up, or is this my internet connection?
Playing on PS4 it can end up where you turn around and it takes 10 seconds for a building to load in that's invisibly blocking your path if you're in an area with loads of items / buildable elements also being loaded in.
I'd imagine playing on PC probably makes it better as certainly watching people play it on youtube etc. they don't seem to encounter laggy issues of the same sort.
