I'm late to bed having just spent about four hours in it on PS5.

I think it's brilliant so far. Definitely reminiscent of The Witcher 3.

100% recommended by me. It's even got LGBT characters to appease any consciences that might need it. laugh

It's like Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, but with kids, wizards, witches, flying broomsticks and cats!

Travel was a bit crap until you get the broom, but I was busy seeing how far I could get in side missions without doing much of the main mission. Not easy as some side missions require specific spells/potions.

That's a really apt comparison actually - and it probably goes some way to explaining why I'm enjoying it so much. I'm finding some of the puzzling has a Tomb Raider feel to it, which is no bad thing either.

I'm getting tempted to buy a series X to play it now

I'm one of these that does like a 100 hours + before starting the story missions
So if I can do that here then I'm in don't want a gave that's over in a few hours

There's certainly plenty to do outside of the main story missions - and at least from what I've experienced so far the game doesn't appear to be railroading you into doing them before you want to either.

To put it in context I've played ~18 hours so far, my OH has played ~42 hours and we're at about the same point in the main story quests. She's done quite a few side quests that I haven't but there's still some that I've done that she hasn't! Advancing the main story opens up further side quests so I tend to do some side-quests, do the next main one and go back to doing side ones for another stint.

Quidditch almost certainly coming as a paid DLC.

Indeed, given the broom-mechanics are already done, the Quidditch pitch already built etc I'd be surprised if there isn't Quidditch content already mostly developed and it's been separated into DLC as part of a brazen cash grab that I'll gleefully purchase just as soon as it's on sale hehe

I thought that. Will is be called 'Quidditch' though? There are a few things which just miss the mark, and my assumption is that this is due to licensing restrictions, e.g. 'Levioso' rather than Wingardium Leviosa', 'flying broom' (why not 'broomstick'?), and whenever the theme tune is played, you get 4 or 5 notes of the song before it trails off into some made up melody.

Just reading online, Leviosa and Levioso are slightly different spells and both in the game, apparently.

Well, NPC chatter, quest text and various bits of gear in the game all refer to "Quidditch" so there's no reason to suspect it would be called anything but that. "Levioso" and "Wingardium Leviosa" are distinct spells in the game - the first is a straight levitation spell that you use primarily in combat that just lifts the target up in the air where they hover for a period and the latter is a utility spell that lets you levitate and move the target object. Not enough of an HP expert to know whether Levioso is an invention for gameplay purposes but Wingardium Leviosa is pretty much as it behaves in the movies.

The music is a new score for the game that intentionally works existing leitmotifs from the movies in to keep it familiar - which is pretty common. It's not like the movies are just blasting the theme tune at you every five minutes either.

I've not got my broom yet but did read that it was unlikely there would be Quidditch as the Broom physics are too slow/too large a turning circle etc to make it feasible, hence why it's "banned" at the opening of the game

Lol, same here. Well, actually, it's Mrs ZS who joked we should buy a series X, I think it's April for the xbox One release?

Yeah it is, I've been putting it off as I don't really have space the box is too big to fit where my one X is and it would mean cutting things up

But I'm getting sick of loading times now

The faster loading times on the Series consoles are a godsend Occasionally I end up playing a game on my XB One (usually while the OH has commandeered the XSX to play Hogwarts Legacy hehe ) and it's just painful going back for this reason.

If you're struggling to fit the XSX (they aren't huge but it is a slightly odd shape) have you considered the Series S? You don't get the graphical big guns of the XSX but the performance is a decent kick above the One plus those sweet, sweet SSD loadtimes.

If you don’t need the disc drive just hide it.

Mines is on a shelf behind my TV. I’ve not seen it since I bought it laugh

It does kick out a good amount of heat though sometimes, so not suitable to just hide in a cupboard somewhere like one can with a new Sky or Virgin TV box, but agreed, just hide it behind the TV or cabinet if possible.

I've been playing this and I must say I've enjoyed it so far. It;s not the greatest game ever made, but considering I'm not a Harry Potter fan and despite having only casually watched two or three of the films years ago and never read the books, I am enjoying it. It looks nice enough, there is a distinctly whimsical English feel about it and there are plenty of little secrets and things tucked away to find, so I haven't felt the need to purse the main story ruthlessly, I've just been doing every side quest when they pop up and exploring a bit here and there.

I think I'm close to getting a broom, which will surely open things up even more. Considering how dense Hogwarts itself is, I was surprised to take a look at the map screen, zoom out and see just how big the game world is. I know it won't all be as content-rich as Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, but even just the size of it is impressive.

Overall, I think it's good game and a strong enough RPG that you don't need to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy it, even if your usual fare is more "serious" gaming.

It would be nice if I could but TV is wall mounted and Xbox is in what was the fireplace (well the flue on a gas fire)
I could stand it vertically but then I'd need to cut the shelf above it will fit horizontal with a few mm gap but imho not enough will measure again though

I could go s but I have discs based games still and really I want the 4k still

Granted my X isn't really 4k

Yeah I can appreciate that - I get 99% of my games digitally these days (either purchase or through Game Pass) but there's still my existing disc-based library so between that and the 4k shininess the XSX was a no brainer for me.

When you say you've got "a few mm gap" if you had one horizontal is that to the shelf above or to the side? If it's the former it's not a problem - the XSX has it's vents on the end that would be the top (if it were stood vertically) so that's where you need a bit of space for airflow.
