its as much as you can do to get people to chat using the keyboard Zed, not unfriendly by any stretch (well, not allbiggrin) just a bit non communicative (waits for bashing)

welcome on board if you pass the secret hand shake wink MJs easily bribed through paypal hehe & server should handle more players.

more the merrier as far as concerned, so WELCOME to all the new comers this year as it seems there are a few now smile

new series starts sunday, knockhill i think... I'd better get practicing

would be up for headset action as today bought a bluetooth thingy for my ear today for using with Skype, will that work with rFactor?

again, welcome to all new comers! driving

We don't use any voice communication in-game. The server we use isn't set up to handle it - but it is very cheap to run when compared to other "dedicated" servers.

Skype would be an option, if you run it in the background or on another machine. We could probably set up a big conference call before the game started but it wouldn't be as convenient as TeamSpeak.

In the pits I'm aware of having a bit of the old virtual verbal diarrhoea when I'm constantly bashing away messages in the chat window, my excuse is I'm usually pished.

However during the race I struggle enough to concentrate without hearing loads of squealing wink and swearing in my ears - as such I'd probably forgo any talky stuff.

Haven't had a chance for any practice yet, these cars don't really suit me so I suspect I wont be as competetive as I was in the good old Volvo.

I still have the chat window off (in the PLR file you can turn it off) so I see no chat when I'm in the car although by pressing T and typing I can say something. But again not when I'm driving smile

Server is upgraded to 16 slots now, can be increased if needed.

As for online chat, pretty sure I can get our server provider to arrange something for us, in fact I think the facility is already there if we want it - I'll ask the question.

Oh and welcome Zedman, drop me a PM and I'll bring you up to speed on things.

Update

Confirmed - Teamspeak2 is free, we need to pay for Ventrilo

Teamspeak IP is 195.74.52.108:8780.

I'll set-up the account with a name of "Pistonheads" and the same password as the server. Will be ready for Sunday.

Good news on Teamspeak. We should give it a go during the week to see
  1. If it works
  2. If it causes us to crash more
  3. If it eats up too much bandwidth

Teamspeak sounds like a good idea. thumbup

My desk is always messy so my keyboard is tucked away behind my wheel making typing difficult. As anyone who's tried to decipher my messages can no doubt confirm I make lots of mistakes so don’t bother most of the time. Shouting abuse (and apologising boxedin) to my fellow competitors would be much easier hehe

Link to the Teamspeak software. Think both client files are required.

ok as a total newbie i cannot pm for 24 hours so i'll drop a line as soon as the block is lifted, in the process of getting the tracks i dont already have.

Teamspeak has always been pretty good on bandwidth in my past experience ventrillo does seem to suck up a little more. and as you say does cost.

I find it hard enough to concentrate without any extra distractions, so i dont think I will be using teamspeak.

Its good to see some new drivers this year, its a shame I wont be able to practice before the first race. I think I will just have time to download the cars and track and then straight into the first race.

i love this track, this is gonna be a good race!! is it the usual time of 8pm now?

Regards Teamspeak, i believe you can only assign push to talk buttons on the keyboard or mice, so to talk whist racing would be hard if your using a wheel, so i would expect the race to be quite. i think TS Is a good idea as setting up the race would become easyer for instance, also if i get kicked from the server i can shout on TS before the race kicks off.

Maybe we should all just give it a go this once if it don't work we'll scrap it, nothing ventured nothing gained!

Pistonheads Teamspeak will be running all the time from now on - if you want to use it do so.

8PM is the usual time, however when it conflicts with Top Gear's new series, we may switch to 9pm. Not sure if it will affect this series though.
