I got the Alpha email too, am tempted as I cant justify the time for the expense, but free is always good right?
Couple of Qs...how huge is the game download? & is the text still as tiny?smile

If I do go for it I think I may have to learn a whole new nerd language, judging from what is being written on some of the linked pages (and this thread smile)

Thanks.

Wow. I wonder how that has gone down with the established community?

May need to pop back on at some point to check on my two characters. I think I left them with quite a lot of money and kit. Need to get my PC reformatted first though.

I guess the Alpha thing is to try and get more people playing.
It's gone down well, lots of people recognising that today's newbro's are tomorrow's bittervets. So loads of people helping and others price gouging T1 stuff in Jita.
Yep this, the attitude has changed a lot in the last few years, new players are embraced and helped as much as possible.

Their has been a huge lift in the number of players on the server. We will see if it sticks.

On the first weekend of the new alpha clones Pandemic horde had a circa 200man fleet on a strategically significant war op, in addition to this we had a 100man new bean fleet of alphas in destroyers and frigates, it was funny when they where on grid with the main fleet seeing them flying in random directions and getting lost. What wasn't amusing (but was good for them) was them getting to chase around interceptor fleets and dunk them, and us in the t3ds and special snowflakes having to sit and wait for 3 hours, just incase we were needed...

First foray into wormhole space today, going well at first scanned down a relic site & looted it. Only problem is I didn't notice the WH collapse behind me or when the other guy came through.

Thought I was in a safe spot trying to scan down an exit when I got hit, he had his warp scramblers on me but with afterburners I nearly escaped his clutches, I ejected and warped my capsule just before my ship exploded.

Just a minor problem of leaving at that point, luckily I think with the value of the loot he got from me he decided to take pity & escorted me out in my capsule.

Had a chat with him as we were leaving, learnt a few things & had fun. Now to rebuild and try again.

never eject, fight until the end, you might still escape, you can sometimes get out with 1-2% hull left. You could consider a defensive warp scrambler, and use your d-scan frequently smile

Fly say.

I live in a wormhole now. Its a great place to be. You have small groups (ok some not so small, but small compared to null and lowsec blocs) of both newbies and highly skilled pilots fighting each other constantly, teaming up with each other when needed, and then both brutally murdering people who come in, then going out of their way to help them when they ask

I think its something everyone should try.
I did it on and off for 5-6 years after setting up a corp with a mate, make a stackload out of it but it's the reason I went inactive 2-3 times in between, just bored me. We had a C5, Capitals the lot but numbers, cant believe we kept it so long. I left and co-incidentally the next day hole control came in and did an eviction. Cant believe I dodged that bullet!

He he

Can't believe this game is still going smile

Bought it just before the servers went live and lived through all the ups and downs and resets of the first few years smile

Finally left when I got ganked and lost everything to m0o (anyone remember them ?)

Good times, but a single persons pastime

Wonder if manofleisure is still going.

Logged back on for the first time in nearly four years the other night. I noticed they increased the things you can do for free so thought I'd access memy characters and see what was what.

Noticed they have changed some skills so a ship I could fly four years ago I cant now. Obviously, the free stuff is quite restrictive but you can fly up to battleship I think.

May pay some subs and get my accounts at Omega level so I can do a bit more over christmas.

If you have the skill trained you can still fly it, even if you don't have the prerequisites, I guess you're looking at commandships.

It won't let me get back in the ship. Its the biggest mining barge (Hulk I think).

Yup all the mining barges are Omega gated.
if you look on the ship browser (alt-a?) theres Omega symbols where the gated off ships are.

Thanks.

Well, I awoke my two old characters and started a third. Subbed all of them now and enjoying this game every now and again.

Had a bit of an issue the other night though. Lost a Mackinaw to some gits in 0.4 space. My own fault really as I got a bit careless. I went into the system in a Thorax, cleared up some rats and noticed local was pretty much dead. So I went a few systems away, picked up my Mack and went to mine some Jaspet.

Two minutes after setting up, a couple of ships appeared out of nowhere, warp scrambled me and popped my ship. I escaped in my pod. Bugger.

Killmail shows I lost about 300 million. I'm not too fussed as the Mack was surplus to my requirements as I use Hulks in safer systems.

Did get me wondering though. I would love to head back into that system and kick their arses. Trouble is, I'm not in any corps at the moment and I'm not sure how much damage I can do to them solo. Could be fun though. smile

Am I daft to think I could tool up and head back into the system and have some fun with them? They only killed me in a couple of frigates. smile

You can always duel / offer 1v1 for fun!

Typically in Eve if you go in a destroyer or anti-frig cruiser / BC then they'll re-ship for something they can take you in. Get a buddy / corp or seek the 1v1 route

Or say fk it as cruisers are cheap and active tank it for fun PVP practice

After 8 years off, I logged back into my clone last night.

Gave away my awesome one, but still got a half reasonable one to tool around in.

A lot seems to have changed! :O

Yeah it's nuts. I've just come back to it after about 7 years, and pretty much everything has changed from what I can see.

I've just done the same! Have 2 low skill clones I am going to play with for free in Alpha.

Have a very high skilled one I loned a friend. He played for a while but logged off in an expensive ship in 0.0 and has been booted from Alliance - doh.
