any hints on aiming points - turret/body side on flat arear etc..rear..
Something it took me a long time to suss out - there is an 'ickle ickle triangle in the middle of the aiming reticel. It changes colour from green for high likelyhood of penetration and damage to red for likely to bounce off. Took me flipping ages before I noticed. I no longer use auto aim and get much more positive hits. But I also have some nice big guns now as well :-)
There is an article on the WOT server about aiming points I think.

In close combat I always try for a track shot to disable the tank; then run round the back and shoot into the engine compartment.
I really struggle with this when it happens to me. The attacking tank always moves faster than my turret can track him. However the couple of times I've remembered/forced myself to go the other way, so that he turns into my sights, have been very satisfying
So, pre-orders announced.... and I think a bit more expensive than expected....
Anyone coughing up?
Bearing in mind I don't normally buy games for 6/12 months after they're released so they are a tenner rather than forty quid; balanced against playing at least a few rounds of WoTs every night - probably play more than any other game for many years..... I keep wobbling between playing free/buying gold as I go; the "light" pack just to get a kick off; the "mid" pack as I like German tanks; the "heavy" pack as it's the only way I'll get a heavy in the near future; or the "sod it" option and have the heavy and mid packs with all the gold I can eat.
"Sod it" is winning at the moment as I haven't spent on a lot of toys for a while now and I figure I might as well be rolling in gold having a good time now, in case I get bored eventually or the player numbers drop too low.
Despite bugs flaws and bias, it's a good game and I wouldn't begrudge the developers making a profit off it at all.

Went with "sod it"
Will spend and spend gold as I feel like for now, on top of premium, and see how player numbers (and therefore matchmaking etc) go in the longer term.
The extra garage slots were quite tempting and 2 premium tanks should bring plenty of cash without exchanging gold.

I may go for the 'Heavy' pack, although it is a lot more expensive than I first imagined. Still, I have spent hundreds of ££s on 'AAA' games over the past couple of years, and most were a huge let down, with only a couple of hours played. At least with this game, I know I shall spend hours on it.

How is the £££ going to work then?
Is it going to be subscription based or do you pay £ for gold?
I would like to pick it up as enjoy the beta but I dont want to pay a monthly fee as I already have 2 eve accounts

However.... after the first few levels of tanks, the XP required to progress, and cash needed to buy new tanks and kit, starts to ramp up. Having a Premium account gives 50% bonus to XP and cash from each battle. Buying a premium account can only be done with Gold, and gold will cost money (currently 250 gold free/day on open beta). Cost approx £10/month for enough gold to be premium for a month (premium available at day/3days/week/month, IIRC, and itcosts less gold/day the longer you have).
Also, other things need gold - to transfer XP, buy premium tanks (not that special usually but you don't have to get to them via XP), buy premium shells (I've never bothered), instant crew training and so on.
So, you can play free, but progress will be slow after the first couple of weeks. I guess by then you may have decided if you like the game or not.
If you're thinking of joining, there's a week of open beta left.... I'd jump in and try a few tier 1 tanks/TD/SPGs now so you've got an idea of what you'd like to do when it goes on full release.

Cool like the idea I can just pay for a weekend.
What are these packs then? If you get a pack can you not swich from chassis?
You'd probably have to buy enough gold for several weekends at once but then you can decide how much to use when, so that can work. What are these packs then? If you get a pack can you not swich from chassis?
The packs are the pre-release orders - gold at approx 10% discount (but a LOT of it! Hence high prices) plus an extra tank and garage slot (slot normally = 300 gold) both free.
Don't really understand the last question? The free tank is yours to keep and use; presumably you'd be able to sell it back to the game (but why would you? It should quickly earn more money than it's worth, IYSWIM); eventually developers are promising P2P sales and the free tanks will probably be worth more then as only those who get them now will be able to have them. In the meantime, you can still play with all the other tanks as usual using other garage slots

If you were in closed beta as well. I was too late
There seems to be some genuine confusion about this. I was only in open beta as well yet the following statement seems to indicate I will get the tank.Wargaming.net CEO said:
Closed beta testers (as well as those players with 1000 or more battles under their belt) will be rewarded with an M4A2E4 tank to acknowledge their contribution to the game's development
In the developer blog it says the criteria is as you say.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
