What I was getting at is that you can't escape the loss of quality, but if you take control of it you may be able to manage the downscaling to get a better output.

I understand that the resolution is lower, but the quality loss is way beyond what you would expect. Footage from camera phone looks better when burt to DVD. I am not sure what is going on. My SD Sony vid cam looks ok on DVD via imovie and idvd, just the gopro footage. It's far from being acceptable by anyones standards.
Would put money on the bit rate being to low.

DVD's should be 8mps

make sure all your settings are ok.

720X576
25 frames per second *pal* (you might have recorded it in 30 frames a second which would cause problems)
8mps bit rate.

Just some day-to-day footage from my office:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL9E7C742E979...

Pilatus PC-6 Porter take-off and landings from various bush strips in Borneo cool

Externally mounted GoPro HD (720p mode) using the suction mount on the underside of the wing strut. No post processing on any of the videos as I'm too lazy to bother biggrin

Regarding the suction mount, I've tested it to 174kts (about 200mph) and it's stayed stuck on fine. I've also had one come off at about 160kts though, so I guess it depends on how well you've got it stuck on...

Quick one of the Cerbera smile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ui6CSHFCNI

Used a Vio POV HD, Sennheiser MKE-2-Gold Mic and a hague vacuum mount.

My main aim was to try and get a good audio record which with only one camera and no monitoring was really hard.

Will spend some more time on the rest of the footage when I get time.

Any recommendations for an external mic for recording exhaust and engine noises? I get too much wind noise

Its a bit of a mine field with these POV cameras.

I use one of these

http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/home_en.nsf/root/pr...

With the pop shield shield that comes with it.

Don't know if it will work with a GoPro but I'm guessing it would.

^^ Anyone else got any good recommendations for a small mic to give better sound when recording from the car?

Seen some good things about Sony ECM DS70P, or Olympus ME15. Anyone used one of these?
Any recommendations on where to mount on the car to capture a decent representation of the exhaust note?

I've bought a chest mount for the GoPro - took some footage with it while fly fishing on Farmoor over the weekend.

I've started using my POV cam every time I go out and do something interesting, mountain biking/ car stuff/ skiing and today kayaking smile

The box the camera came in said it was water proof so on it went and off we paddled hehe I've not been on the water for a few years so its not very exciting however it catches moments like this.

Sound was a bit rubbish as the mic was behind me....
