That DOF calculator is very interesting, thanks for the link
Here's the first shot of my new motor, now I'm pretty much done with the styling mods

I love that. I can't put my finger on what it is about it, but it just looks brilliant. Here's the first shot of my new motor, now I'm pretty much done with the styling mods

The shot or the car?I'm happy with either mind, as they are both mine
The shot is what I was originally referring to though. It's not often a picture with a dull grey sky can look good but it works in this shot.

Well now that you mention it, although i'm not really a fan of the MX5, yours does look very smart. I think the colour coded badge and the lack of a front plate makes it look quite mean.

Glad to hear it The shot is what I was originally referring to though. It's not often a picture with a dull grey sky can look good but it works in this shot.
This was intended to be a quick snap shot to show what has been done to the car. But as ever I've opened it with PS and took it a bit further.. I can't help myself!

Rob, would you mind sharing the settings you used for that photo
As said I used a 400mm at f5.6 on a full frame canon 5d2.The equivalent on a MTF camera would be 200mmf2.8
Subject was about 5m away I think, mebe more.
I didnt go out to shoot this stuff with a 400, I was looking for birds, but as usual the best gear you have is the gear in your hands. 400mm/200mm(mtf) is quite unwieldy for this stuff, you need to be a fair distance away and you introduce shutter speed/ISO issues.
I'd recommend the 45mm f1.8 for a good start on mtf for dof abuse. Though one thing that mtf makes tricky is subject isolation.
Hi Folks, I've been lurking far too long admiring some of the excellent pictures, reading and learning from some of the postings. We had a couple of hours of the Aurora on Monday night and I thought I might share a couple.
