Lake district tips

I’ve been the Lakes one or twice All the Lakes area is nice but would agree with Mr Carter, the North seems to have the better views. Loads of places to choose from though. Clicky for my Lakes set

Any special hardware required to get photos like that (other than a keen eye and skills with the camera)... other than a decent SLR that is?
For me, I always use a tripod, remote shutter release or timer and ND grads. But you can get away without the grads if you want to take multiple shots with varying exposures and blend them in PS. I would rather do it in camera though. Oh and walking boots / wellies, water proof coat and pants, flask of tea and grub. I am completely ashamed to say I live in Cumbria about 20 mins from the Lakes, National Park and know it like the back of my hand etc but rarely partake in any photography there... Despite really enjoying photography!
I do however love driving round here... So I'm hoping that compensates slightly??
There is nothing quite like getting in the car on a summers day and rumbling all the way through the Lakes, past the Lowood Bay, through Bowness, and down to The Swan, before returning over a mountain pass or two

Shame on you I have a 2 hour drive (over 100 miles) to get to the lakes, but just love the place. Some of the roads aren’t bad either I do however love driving round here... So I'm hoping that compensates slightly??

Im staying in Windermere, travelling up friday from portsmouth area
Nice The weather up here is nice at the moment, the temperature has took a winter plunge over the last week, it's chilly but dry and sunny, hope it stays that way for you.
If you are in Windermere and are wondering where to go for a bite to eat one day, have a drive along the lake to Newby Bridge at the bottom and try The Swan: http://www.swanhotel.com/
A nice little gents shop to look in is Morse Point in Bowness on Windermere. Boss, Armani, suits, shoes etc and often has some cracking items on sale.
Also worth a look just for the coffee and amazing cakes is Chesters by the River: http://www.chestersbytheriver.co.uk/
You might even fit in a Lake District walk as well!
ETA: There are a couple of places in Bowness by the Marina that hire electric boats as well! They can hold up to about 7-8 people and are great fun Me and my mates often hire them for a laugh in the summer. It's a fantastic way of seeing the Lake at your own speed and without much effort... good photo opportunities from the boat as well.

Wast Water is a must.
Thirlmere is stunning (cheers Mark, you were absolutely spot on. Just couldn't drag myself out there for the sunrise.) Got buzzed by Hawks, Eurofighter and a Herc (the most impressive of the three) when I was last there.
If you're up to a bit of a gentle walk Lingmoor Fell gives a great view over both Little and Great Langdale valleys, as well as over Blea Tarn (pictured in paul911's post above.)
I didn't get the chance to stop and take photo's but there's a road between Buttermere and Crummock Water leading back towards Keswick - there's definitely potential there for some shots of Ard Crags/Knott Rigg. That's on my to-do list for another trip up there.
A few other options:

Amazing photos!
Could anyone suggest any good driving roads or routes in the Lake District? My old company gave me a Caterham hire voucher as a leaving gift and I am heading up to the lakes next Friday to enjoy it. I will be taking my SLR and also plan to buy a go pro to capture some of the action... Any tips would be gratefully received.

All the usual's, Honister is great. There is one HUGE problem with the Lake District. It's FULL of cars, so you really have to time it if you want a good drive. (apologies for the tiny screen, I was on dial-up when I posted it!)
If you want empty roads. You need to travel a further 350 miles north.
Have fun!
