I could've sworn I saw this exact thread a few weeks ago. Not in an "OP should've used the search button" kind of way, but as in a deja-vu exactly the same thread sort of way. confused

Anyway, my most recent purchase to have arrived (I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of a nice, shiny new 7D body) was a Canon 28mm f1.8 USM prime. Sample (wide open) shot below.

Nikon 28mm 1.8g and 85mm 1.8g for me. Have ditched my 24-70 in favour of primes. Time will tell if it's the right choice.

Whilst out here at Photokina I pushed the button on a set of Elinchrom Quadra Ranger battery powered studio flash.

Next lens is a difficult one, have a hankering for a 85mm f1.2 even though I have minimal use for one, it will keep my 135mm f2 (that I also have minimal use for) company. Also got all carried away at the show with the Zeiss 15mm which was gorgeous and would be ideal for startrails etc.

Bodywise I was thinking I'd change my 1Ds2 which I use as a second body for another 5D3 but having seen the 6D I may be tempted by that.

I had a play with one of those recently.Loved the image quality but two things put me off. The need to be well back from a full body subject (compared to the 35mm I tried at the same time) and the AF speed which I found frustratingly slow. Maybe with the second issue it was just the copy I tried but I was much more impressed with the 35mm f/1.4.

The focal length on the 85mm I'm happy with (I want something a bit wider than the 135) but the AF speed has put me off a bit, that said its a lot of glass to be moving, understandable that its not the quickest.

Because of the AF speed and the weight I much prefer the Canon 85mm f/1.8. The only slight downside I find is the minimum focus distance is a bit too long for tight head shots.

my current shopping list is as follows;

Canon EF 14mm f2.8 L II USM

...
EBay Canon outlet have had one of these listed for a while. (For some reason it started off priced at higher than High Street.)

Just a few minutes ago I noticed that the current ad is asking £1125. Refurb but full 12 month Canon warranty. Good price. Really enjoyed the one I rented but bought a Samyang instead for the savings.

Just about to order a Lumix G3 to replace my 6 year old Canon bridge, I wanted an entry SLR at the time but the weight puts them out question for me, now CSCs have matured a few years and I can get the best of both at a decent price point it seems the time for an overdue change.

Will stick with the kit 14-42 at first but might swap to the kit 14-45 later, I'll definately be getting the 45-175 and might pick up an old 24mm f2/2.8 to adapt while I save for the 20.

The mention of Samyang reminds me, when their 24mm tilt shift comes out I'll probably be having one, had a chat with them at Photokina but they couldn't give a price, only that they're expecting it at market in December.

Did they have a lens to look at?

Only in a display cabinet so it was hard to get a proper view. It did look very well built though (don't we all!).

Cokin H250A ND Grad Kit and a 77mm adapter ring. About £75 for the lot.

Hot or not?

Seems like a practical way to get started with using filters on the 10-22mm - a lens which, I've found, makes using a CPL a very tricky affair.

Is it a load of old cok(in)?

You could probably get yourself set up with Hitech 100mm for not much more than that,

Lee Foundation Kit, Adaptor Ring and a 3 stop hard edge would be my recommendation as a starter kit.

Mine are in the post, 2 x D70 (and a cheap 70-300) for the bargain sum of 130 quid. I'm going to convert the bodies to infra red.

The 1.8 will probably be my next lens. I'd love the 1.2, but think the 1.8 would be the more sensible purchase in terms of both price and usability.

Probably a 70-200mm and a 90mm TS-E.

I find a lot of my landscapes nowadays are using quite narrow focal lengths and the 105mm end of my 24-105mm is starting to feel a bit limiting.

The 90mm TS-E is something I've been wanting for detail shot's and woodland photography a while.

Although im thinking of ditching the 90mm TS-E idea and going down the Large Format route for my details and tree stuff.

Been a while since I've used film and only 35mm and medium format but I did used to enjoy it.
