Now I've got the 11-1000mm (16-1500mm) range covered, I'm thinking something prime-y, fast-ish, macro-y and possibly portrait-y.

And a beefier tripod (I got that lovely little Manfrotto that was recommended on here, but it's a bit wobbly with the Sigma on it).

I could do with a 24-70mm f/2.8. The new Canon looks good but is too expensive for what it is in my opinion. The old version is good but has gone up in price second hand now the new one is out. The new Tamron with image stablisation sounds great but there are mixed reviews on the build quality and the focusing looks quite slow. Argh!

I have the Sigma (Nikon fit) and love it if that helps?

I do have access to the Canon fit version of that Sigma and I'm not a massive fan unfortunately. It's just not sharp enough for me. I also have access to a 24-105 f/4 and that's pretty good, particularly for the money and considering it has IS. It'd just be nice if it was a stop faster and a little sharper.

The trouble is I mainly use primes so I'm disappointed with most zooms. My own fault entirely for expecting too much I think!

Cokin H250A ND Grad Kit and a 77mm adapter ring. About £75 for the lot.

Hot or not?

Seems like a practical way to get started with using filters on the 10-22mm - a lens which, I've found, makes using a CPL a very tricky affair.

Is it a load of old cok(in)?
You could probably get yourself set up with Hitech 100mm for not much more than that,

Lee Foundation Kit, Adaptor Ring and a 3 stop hard edge would be my recommendation as a starter kit.
Eeenteresting. I'd skipped over Lee kit, assuming it would be out of my price range.

It needn't be, you don't need to go overboard.

You can get a hitech 100mm holder and rings, and filters for nto too much more than the 85mm stuff.

I've some Lee stuff on the way and it isnt cheap... £350nz for just the holder, 2 adaptor rings and a 105mm cp thread.

No filters yet! They will be coming form 2filter.com

I went for one of these for messing about with in the winter

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/photocritic/tr...

Which has turned into this https://triggertrap.com/

Going to mess about with some sound triggers as well as firing some IR lasers at it, hoping also for some lightning at some stage and can see how the light trigger works. smile

Trap focus is just brilliant.

Desperately hoping that the next time my bonus comes around I might actually get to use it on myself.
That'd mean a Canon 650d with triple lens kit, and hopefully the 320 flash thrown in for good measure.

The focal length on the 85mm I'm happy with (I want something a bit wider than the 135) but the AF speed has put me off a bit, that said its a lot of glass to be moving, understandable that its not the quickest.
Because of the AF speed and the weight I much prefer the Canon 85mm f/1.8. The only slight downside I find is the minimum focus distance is a bit too long for tight head shots.
The 1.8 will probably be my next lens. I'd love the 1.2, but think the 1.8 would be the more sensible purchase in terms of both price and usability.
The 1.8 is a great little lens, and a bargain price too. That and the 35mm 1.4 make my two-body, two-lens basic kit.

Hmmm... looking for some decent glass to plop in between a 15-55 F1.2 and and 80-400 F4.5 for use on a DX body Bit surprised at the lack of options from Nikon or third-parties confused
