Wow Steve that looks fantastic.

Have you tried to mount the unit on a car yet?

I have one of the cheep feiyu Chinese versions from Amazon, but it was only £130, somthis is almost three times the cost.

However the modular nature of it is really the Great strength of it by the looks of it.

I have been looking at 360 degree cameras like the Nikon Key Mission, but as we know it's not been well received.

Looking at your removue, it's got me thinking, would one of these mounted on my Caterham, using the remote to pan around be a better option?

Must resist!
Only got it this morning, so haven't tried on car yet... watch this space.

Seriously impressed with build quality and initial results. (Still don't know what I'm doing!)

Can I ask what made you choose this over the other brands, GoPro, DJI?

I've been waiting for the S1 since mid last year. It was meant to be waterproof to start with but I see that they changed it to RAINPROOF now.
I have few gimbals and so far DJI is my favorite.
In regards to mounting it to a car - I've tried it few times and I actually dislike the result. You lose sensation if speed, cornering etc. IMO camera attached properly (no shakes and vibration, popular with cheap Gopro mounts) to the car is better for filming driving than one on a gimbal. Gimbal is great for passenger filming you driving, views etc.

It was a toss up between the gopro and the Removu - both getting great reviews. What swung it was that it tends to rain up here a bit!

Nice find Steve - I just watched that review - looks very well designed. It's a shame it only has a go pro mount, and not a 1/4" thread for attaching to tripods and other camera clamps. Price for what you get seems remarkable

Gopro karma grip is frickin huge though! In comparison to third party ones it's much more inconvenient to travel with/pack etc.

I know - but then you've got a weak point, it'll act like a little hing when you hit a bump. Im not sure plastic go pro mounts like that were designed to take the weight of a go pro and a gimbal....

Fair point... I'll try it, see how it works. (Got one this morning).

Here are some pics I have taken over the last few days. Seriously impressed with the underwater was of use and wide angle images. I highly recommend the Hero 5 Black. Completely waterproof and it has made time in the water so much fun!

Quick question for the knowledgeable:

I'm looking to buy either a Gopro Hero 5 Black or Garmin Virb Ultra 30. Main use will be for trail running. I've read at length their strengths and weaknesses and the Garmin is edging it, but one difference is standing out. IS@ 2.7K - Gopro will do 60FPS, Garmin only 30FPS.

For my intended use - how much of an issue is that likely to be?

Neither of those will be any good TBH, you will need something with optical stabilisation.

The weight of a gimbal is prohibitive for the events I'm doing - and if it wasn't, the cost would be. I'm not expecting buttery smoothness, just trying to make the best of it.

You don't need a gimbal with some of the action cameras out there at the moment.

Have a look at some of the steady shot comparison videos on YouTube.

For example.

I really don't think the two cameras you have picked will be any use at all frown

They're the market leaders for this sort of thing. Is there anything out there with OIS that has anywhere near the feature set of those listed above? I only know of the Sony X3000R, and that gets a panning for ease of use/controls, laggy start times etc. And it will only do 60FPS@1080p (which I still don't know how much of an issue that is.) So what would you suggest as an alternative to the three being discussed?

Well despite wanting the gimbal that Steve posted earlier, I went the other way and bit the bullet and bought a Nikon Keymission 360.

As mentioned, it's had some pretty bad reviews, but at the end of the day it seems to be down to the control software, and In particular the SnapBridge 360 app used on your device to control it.

I figured with the size and power of the Nikon corporation behind it, it would only take a few updates and new releases to make it much better, so I said what the heck.

I also looked at the competition, from Ricoh Theta, Samsung and a few others scoring well in group test ratings.

After looking st all the above, they are just too cheap a plastic looking,,and for my intended use mounted on my Caterham for track days etc, what ever I chose had to be up,tomtnat harsh environment.

One look at Nikon 360 and I was sold. It's a proper professional piece of kit, fully waterproof , dust proof and shock proof too.

We did the Fish and Chip run across Wales to Aberdovey and back last weekend, and despite the usual Welsh adverse weather it was great.

Here's one clip coming back over the mountain from Aberdovey , very pleased with the 360 view and the quality of the footage too.

It's sadly a bit wobbly because numb nuts here forgot to tighten the base screw back up when I took it off to stop for, lunch!

Also where I fixed it on top of the roll bar was too much in the high speed airflow so there's to much wind noise, will fix that next time with a better mounting location.

Here's the footage.

For what you want to do I'm really not sure, I'm guessing you want to use a chest mount or something?

BTW the Sony FDR-X3000 is the best there is at the moment.

Sony is better in low light
Sony has optical stabilisation (which can't be underestimated, it is a major thing)
Sony has higher bit rate
Sony has better audio + 3.5mm jack input.
Sony generates time code (if you need that sort of thing)

But over all this, forget reading specs, they mean nothing if your footage is shaky.

60fps is really only needed if you are going to do some slow motion stuff. (which the GoPro @ 4K won't do anyway)

Not much help am I hehe
