I only learnt this a few days later. I've relied on the DJI geo-fencing to cover me so far but I guess it's not definitive. I travel with it a lot but I need to start checking the local rules now that things are tightening up so much. My personal rule is and was 'don't be a dick'. I was flying at 7am at the top of the mountain without another soul around but I imagine there's little discretion when it comes to application of the law.
This article may be of some use >>> https://dronesaferegister.org.uk/blog/im-a-hobby-d...I am a PfCO holder and commercial flyer, and even I struggle sometimes to find if I can / cant fly!!! Some local authorities are now catching on by using the Take off and Land permission on their land, to prevent flying.
The "Drone Code" is a good basis to start with and then implement that into where you want to fly. Consider also the risk factor, what happens if etc...
Recent high profile news stories haven't helped the cause either. If in doubt ask!
As said above, resources such as the NATS app give a lot of airspace info, also the RAF Low Flying team are very helpful too.
I can't help but feel that we're rapidly reaching the point where any law abiding, right thinking person is going to be spending a lot of time registering a drone, writing a flight ops manual, consulting maps for no fly zones and avoiding crowds etc only to be badgered to death by general disapproving finger wagging.
In complete contrast, those who don't give a toss will just rock up wherever they like with their unregistered drone, buzz a few people and landmarks and pack up without a care in the world. So long as they don't share the footage publicly then no authority is ever going to be the wiser. It's difficult to get a police response to a burglary so I can't imagine a drone flight is going to be high on their priorities.

My Mavic has been to all over Europe, South Africa and New Zealand.
I ONLY fly it when I know I'm not going to piss people off.
So far never had an issue.
BUT I'm flying it less and less because of the "perception" of them.

Probably not
The one at Heathrow a few days later was a model plane a bit too close to the no fly zone
Was on birmingham airport (in a plane!) a week or two back. The one at Heathrow a few days later was a model plane a bit too close to the no fly zone
Pilot says over the tannoy, "sorry folks, there has been a drone spotted near the runway"
Moan goes up in the plane.
Pilot goes on to say "so we are going to take off the other way down the runway to avoid it."
That one probably was a drone, and reaction to it seems much more sensible!
Still haven't seen anything to make me thing the gatwick one was real.
I really need to get mine out and start trying to learn to fly it. I can't even remember the make of it but it wasn't expensive and if i bin it/lose it i wont be too upset.
With regards to the new restrictions, in my case until i get used to flying, 400ft maybe isn't such a bad idea. Just a shame i will have to travel for miles to be able to fly it legally.
