Digital Photo editing is totally new to me. Is there some decent free software I should start with?

Any hints and tips appreciated!
Less than 20 seconds in Lightroom (last time I looked you could get it on a free trial)

For some reason Flickr seems to mess with the colour a little?

Might be the browser. My Firefox adds saturation compared to Safari.

I think my workflow is not optimal - drone or camera, I don't seem to manage the same punchy images others are getting. Usually I:

Raw import - pull shadow and brightness to get a good spread on the histogram, turn up saturation as appropriate.
Adjust curves - usually an S curve to get a bit more contrast in there
Unsharp mask to bring out edges
Crop and resize as appropriate

.. and that's pretty much it. My monitor is a fairly good one, but I'm not convinced I'm getting the most out of the colours. I'm sure some of it is just poor technique taking the original picture, but it's frustrating to be a few steps behind many of the offerings on here..

I'm quite jealous. My permissions limit me to flying with landowners permission. That's quite difficult to get on an off the cuff basis.

Plus all of the stuff related to PfCO. It does take the fun out of it to a degree
Only if you are flying for commercial reasons? wink

Better to beg forgiveness than ask for permission - if you get caught.... hehe

Photo editing is somewhat new to me, so for now I've ran some images through GIMPs' auto enhancer (A great free editing software if anyone needed one).
PH max upload seems to be 2mb also so I've had to compress the image. Not sure how this will affect image quality etc.
Good shout to those suggesting the Phantom 3. Fantastically easy to fly.

What are you guys using to edit? I was put off by the monthly cost of the adobe CC stuff and went with Cyberlink Photo/Power Director, however, I'm wondering if I made the right choice...

For the video and photo edit package it looked like it was around £45 per month? Is that the right software?

Okay, so Lightroom and Photoshop is now £9.98 per month (blame Brexit for the price hike), but you really don't need the high end adobe video editing software (unless you want to do serious stuff). iMovie on Mac or MovieMaker on PC (both free) will do most of what you want.

..and I sometimes use the (also free) GoPro software to edit vid.

This was done using said software and a Phantom 3 pro (in 4k... knocked down to 1080 for Youtube). It looks MILES better in 4k

Second that for the Lightroom/Photoshop. I use the same circa £10/mth one and has more than I can use. I also use Wondershare/Filmora for video editing. There is a free version and then an upgraded one) Think I paid £60 or so for a year. Has lots of nice effects.

Cheers
