He seems to sneer at anything not nikon I think...
Cheers Rob, not. We grew out of the brand wars in 2005; it's one of the 'stages of a photographer'.There's nothing about this camera that interests me, that's all.

I expect though that you can see why people are wondering about your motivation in posting about a camera that you have no interest in?
I am wondering about your motivation in posting about my posts! Ah yes, you lost a forum scrap with me a few years ago and still feel bitter. You could spend your time commenting on the camera rather than sniping. So what are your views on the Sony A9?

Anyway, I'm not the only one who has noticed that you seem to have something against this camera, and I'm not the only one who has wondered at your motivation on posting about it. Feel free to enlighten us.
My own thoughts? Well, if there was a truly effective Canon to Sony adapter then I would be carefully considering this camera. AIUI such a thing isn't yet available and may never be, so when I need another camera then it will almost certainly be the 1DX mk2.

Am I right in thinking Sony sensors handle noise way better than others ? Or was it just internet noise ?
No idea how this one will handle noise, promises a lot and it should be good. Remember Sony actually make most of Nikon's sensors and Fujis etc tho they both do their own lithiography

Perhaps I was supposed to be excited at the thought of '20fps and 5-axis VR', but really, it doesn't get me going. We've had the megapixel race, we've had the ISO race, are we now on the FPS race and the 'how many axes of VR you can have' race? It's good for headlines and people who collect bullet points but is it really much to do with photography? Like Mp, there is only so much you actually need! I feel it's a case of throwng 'tech' at a camera 'because they can'. I'm sure the camera will take excellent photos even if you turn it down to 19fps and four axes of VR RobDickinson said:
Simpo ..
For some sports more fps is better. You cant predict whats going to happen.
This has a 240 frame buffer.
It also has dram on the sensor itself so there is very fast caching of the image, so no viewfinder blackout at all.
Its a real step forward...
Nah. All you need is a box brownie. It's all in the technique you use. Amateur! For some sports more fps is better. You cant predict whats going to happen.

yeh, 20 fps is Overkill for motorsports (unless you are capturing an accident or something), but for "human" sports.. tennis, football, rugby etc etc... I can imagine its useful! I'll be interested to try No blackout viewfinder when panning cars! For some sports more fps is better. You cant predict whats going to happen.

Has anyone got there mitts on one of these yet.
Not yet. Have been told there'll be an A9 at the Sony open day at Calumet Manchester on Thu 4th May for anyone who wants to have a look. I'm giving a couple of presentations at the event and hoping to get a look at it in between my sessions. Sony have been running similar events at retailers up & down the UK so check your local store/ chain if interested. Now in stock at Wex

Order placed, should arrive on Wednesday.
Bundle price on Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 G Master lens so I thought I had better have that too.
Met up with sony reps for a beer and a play with the A9 yesterday
what a beast! Ok its small but wow, 20fps silent and no blackout will be a game changer, 240 frame buffer is a nice step up from sony who usually screw over that detail.
Its $8000 here though ( and 100-400 is $4700!) so not on my shopping list
Surprised on the new batter- same size about as a lp-e6 canon battery. Also it has a pc synch which surprised me too.

Couldn't resist any longer, these just turned up from panamoz this morning (amazingly quick delivery) I sold my Fuji XT2 and various lens to help fund it. Just waiting for the battery to finish charging before I have a go : ) It does feel more chunky than the A7Rii I had, and the 24-70 2.8 is a monster!
