A bit of a random thought on a (very) hypothetical question. You take some shots at a site/venue that specifically states that all photography is for personal use only. You later enter a shot into a competition where the organisers claim use for all entries (for whatever purpose) and it wins ! Competition organisers then use photo for advertising purposes. Would the owners of the orginal venue have to go after the final user. ( I assume by enteriing a competition like this you hand over all rights to the photo ?)

(I've too much time on my hands at the moment biggrin)

i think situations like this depends who has the most money / lawyers .... the venue would have to be really awkward to do anything about it...

You probably shouldn't have entered it into a competition, knowing that if it won it would be used commercially.

This.

Every competition rules usually state that you need to have the rights to the image before you enter it so they are safe to use it.

And they usually state that any legal comeback is on the photographer. as do all stock agencies etc.

Its happened before where the photographer ends up in the st.
