I went to photobox last night to try and get some photos printed out.
I have a Nikon 3400 with 24 megapixels, the settings in the camera are set to JPEG fine and the image size is large 6000x4000,24.0( whatever that means)
Question is how big should I be able to get a photo print at high quality?
I wanted to print an A4 size photo at the above settings and photobox was saying the photo was only medium quality, I had to go right down to photograph size before it said the image was high quality.
I would've thought a camera with that many pixels would be able to produce a high quality A4 print??

Seems bizarre to me,

If you consider that the human eye can resolve about 170 dpi from 20" then your 6000x4000px image could make a perfectly good print 36 x 24".

Did the image get resized somewhere en route?

2.5k x 3.5k pixels for an A4 print is perfect reasonable.

Photobox's resolution guide agrees - https://www.photobox.co.uk/content/quality-advice/...

Could it be that you've uploaded not the original image but a large thumbnail that your software has produced?

Otherwise I'd contact Photobox and ask.

Gents thanks very much for trying to help me, I'm just new to photography and learning the ropes. I'm not really sure how to do the things you've asked me to do.
1. I'm on an iPad how do I get exif data.
2. I took the photo on the Nikon, uploaded it to snapbridge, which also saved it to my camera roll on the iPad, from there I just went to photobox and used the choose photo/upload options and that was the result Iv posted above.
3. Where do I find out this information mate? Camera or on my iPad somewhere ?

Thanks again

Okay, so chances are (??) that snapbride 'squashed' your file size, making it screen resolution, rather than print resolution. Just go back to photobox, and upload the original file, straight from the camera, it'll be well big enough to be excellent quality for an A4 print (or indeed a lot bigger).

Iv spoken to photobox, they seem to think the problem is being caused because I'm Using a mobile device (iPad) , I can't upload directly to photobox from the camera via an iPad, I need either a laptop or desktop to do that. He adjusted some settings in photobox for me but With the method I'm using they say the biggest size I can print is A4.

IMHO an iPad is totally unsuitable for photo manipulation. Get your photo into a proper computer!

Can you recommend a reasonable laptop for it, maybe £500 preferably cheaper. tbh until now Iv never really needed a proper computer for anything. I just use the iPad for mucking about with.

You might be better off with a desktop for that price but I know a lot less about computers than others on here

Nope, my desktop is 10 years old so I have no idea what's currently about. Maybe try the Computing forum?

May be worth looking at other options for printing, rather than buying a laptop to use Photobox.

DSCL are my favourite at the budget end of the market, although my wife uses Snapfish from her iPad.

There are hundreds of options!

Won't all those options have the same problems as photobox though as the problem I have is when they are being uploaded to the iPad, the iPad is "squashing" the files so unless the iPad comes out of the equation then the same thing will happen??
