I want to buy a second hand Cannon DSLR not sure what to go for -

I had a 50D about 8 years ago and loved it but sold it, I want to get a more modern equivalent but can't seem to work out what models what.

Any advise welcome.

Thanks for the recommendation, what is the main differences between the 7d Mk1 & Mk2 and also what would be classed as a low shutter count?

How much do you want to spend? (Including lens/es)
What will you be taking photographs of?
Do you have any gear left from your 50D days?

The 60D is the replacememt for the 50D. There is also a 70D available these days
The rest is down to your price point

7D mk2 is much newer, its 290mp vs 18, better buffer, iso, 10 fps vs 8, improved metering and AF (f8 focusing etc) and the funky dual pixel cmso sensor tech.

Other options are the 80d (current) or 70D

Depends what you want to shoot, 7d series is very performance orientated if you are into birds/sports etc

all will be a big step up on the 50d

The mtf of canon shutters:
http://www.shutteractuations.com/canon-eos-camera-...

Basically xxxD = 100,000
xxD =150,000
xD =150- 200,000+

Typically cameras get nowhere near that unless used for timelapse or very very heavily

Using man-maths you need either a full-frame 6D or 5D3 smile and wait till one day after the credit card statement date to buy a little more time before the monthly statement drops through the post and is opened by the wife, well that's what I did... smokin

The OP would be well advised to travel over to dpreview.com or similar & research based on his requirements. Asking endless questions on here is just going to give you a rainbow of other people's opinions.

And dpreview will offer just the same. There's a finite choice of cameras, we just need answers to the questions I asked earlier.

we've no idea on his requirements other than he had a 50d, quite an unloved model tbh..

So we need to stop helping with guesswork until the op lets us know.

Well you've hit the issue right on the head. I've had a 50d since 2010 (albeit I have a newer camera now but I've still kept the 50d) and it was a robust, decent camera with a burst rate well suited to motorsports photography. And whilst you may not have loved it, I have enjoyed owning it, which kinda proves the value of asking opinions on the internet.

At least going to somewhere like dpreview you get some actual measures to baseline the camera against, aswell as the opinion of reviewers who see many, many cameras.

Hi all, sorry for late responses,

Budget - £400 - £800 for body

Use - i need an all rounder, something that can handle windsurfing action photos from the beach and also holiday photos & group shots.

Also something that's not so complex the other half can use without reading a photography book.

Thanks

You might just find a 7D mk2 for that. If so, look no further.

I'd go as far as saying that I'd put off buying until I can afford a 7D2 and the lens I want.

You can buy a new 7D Mk2 from Panamoz for £890 which I think would be ideal for you.

Now I didnt say I personally didnt love it. It was poorly received in the market for a number of reasons, which I personally dont agree with, but thats a fact.
