This months competition is Long Exposure. A repeat topic from all the way back in 2012.

November is an excellent month to get your camera, tripod and (if needed) filters out and start stretching those shutter speeds.

Try combining with autumn colour or bonfire night fireworks, camera motion or panning.

I'm not setting a lower limit on shutter speeds as a 'long exposure' for a surfing shot will be different to a long exposure for stars/fireworks etc just make good use of the technique.

Prize: This month James Mann has supplied a copy of his updated book 'How to photograph cars' to the winner! Good luck everyone!

Rules:
  • The photos taken must be your own work and taken in the month of the competition.
  • The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
  • The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for following month and judges it at the end of the month.
  • Entries and discussion on this single thread please.
  • All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
  • Photos entered should be no bigger than 750 pixels wide for a landscape photo and 600 pixels high for a portrait photo due to the PH squash factor. Links to larger versions are permissible.

Shame you didn't include the last 4 days of October. Here's a non-entry to look at while people get their gear out in November.

Does this mean we can put up more than one photo initially then choose the best later?

Although gotta say Chris is off to a flying start! smile

I got this image on Saturday morning, 25 minutes before sunrise, 30 second at f10. The location was the Hahnensee near my home in the Engadin, Switzerland, a small tarn just under the tree line at 2150m. The ground that it was taken is usually a bog but it and the tarn were frozen.

Ok, to add a few more photos since there aren't any fireworks ones yet, here are 3 from Saturday night. Unfortunately I didn't think they'd let me in with a tripod so these are hand held, with the funfair one leaning against a food stall! Currently undecided whether 1 or 3 is best, although neither up to the previous ones in this thread IMHO. smile

ETA - Please consider only no.1 and disregard 2 and 3. Thanks.

Because this is a site that attracts those interested in motoring I thought we needed another long exposure photo with cars.

I took this photo this morning on the Julier Pass, in a spot about 15 minutes from my house. It's was a 2 minute exposure taken about 35 minutes before sunrise. We get this wonderful glow Alpenglow at this time of year which was just starting on the mountains opposite. Later shots showed this better, but at the expense of the vibrant headlights. I love the way that the sky in the opposite direction to the sunrise goes a lovely purple.

(This one rather than the previous one should be counted as my entry)

I love that!

My planned photo was going to include cars too, but haven't been able to get out due to a knee injury.

Are we limited to one photo per person? And does it have (or should) it be car related?

Remember one entry only at the end of the month otherwise I'll have to ignore you.
