I wouldn't worry about getting a second hand body serviced as a priority.

Both my D7000 (MPB) and my D610 (CEX) were bought second hand from retailers.

My D7000 was bought 5 years ago and I haven't ever felt the need to get it serviced biggrin

Folks,

I truly cannot thank you all enough thumbup

Some great reading and options to consider. I think my takeaway is that a D7x00 is the way to go, Whichever one we go for (the 0, 1 or new 2) will be a huge step up from what we have today with the D50.

It looks like there's some light at the end of the tunnel bounce

The D7200 that eltawater linked to above is very appealing ...... especially considering it's new and a 3-year warranty :scratchin: The only downside to a 2nd-hand body is having one that's been cleaned/serviced/etc - so buying from a retailer is key; although I guess I could get it serviced anyway, post-purchase (if done privately).

Time to start reading those reviews.

Thank you all again, so so very much. It's truly very much appreciated.

And most sincere apologies for the numptiness paperbag
I agree with most of what people have said.

The only thing I'd add is that you're hinging your buying requirements on one lens, a 70-300mm, the only non-AF-S lens in your line-up. It's also the 'G' version which is the budget one and not very good. Consider swapping it for an AF-S VR version because it will be much better quality AND focus faster. And if you did that, all other Nikon bodies would suddenly be viable.

As said, servicing is a non-issue. You can dust it yourself for nothing smile

I love my D7200 - it's superb and imo, excellent value for money in the Nikon range.

The D7200 is a great camera. Had one for a couple of years and just sold it to MPB a couple of weeks ago as I've sold all my DSLR stuff and moved to mirrorless.

I was also happy with HDEW (supplied my 7200) as listed by eltawater but bear in mind that they are grey imports if that bothers you (they will provide a VAT receipt if you ask for one). If buying from MPB, bear in mind that you may still get a grey import as mine was and they didn't care.

I stopped using Grays... prices silly compared to competition. (Lovely though the shop is).

Another vote for HDEW, I can't fault them. They provide their own warranty too.

So I've finally done it thumbup

I've gone for a D7200 and I've gone for a brand new one (body only). There were many factors why. Firstly there's the £185 cashback, which makes it cheaper than 2nd hand ones from Greys and just a few quid more expensive than MPB.

I did seriously consider the D7000 and D7100, but brand new, with a 2-year warranty, free next day delivery, and a pretty damn good price swung it. Not too much more than what HDEW had it for.

Again, thank you all for all your inputs. I've honestly been mulling it over and over, and read everyones posts many many times.

Good move thumbup

I've just bought a D7200 as well to replace my D7000 - its a noticeable improvement in AF and high ISO performance, and the extra resolution gives a nice extra margin for cropping.

£185 cash back? I must not go away and google this offer....

Just come back from Goodwood Festival Of Speed. Not sure a 7200 would have made my photos any better....
