Guys
Used to shoot a canon 400d then moved to sony a6000 and while the sony is great BUT next to no auto lenses.

So I got to thinking how about buying an old 5d and going full frame. Entry seems very cheap with a classic or mkii

But is it worth it and anything to look out for? Obviously the hi has a load more focus points than the classic

Compared to canon Sony's available e mount auto glass is very sparse and costly

I still use an original 5D, which I bought as a stop gap a number of years ago. The only thing I don't like is the autofocus, it does the job, but I'd come from a 1D, so was used to better. I was under the impression that the mk2 has the same autofocus system as the classic.

What about a Nikon D700? I still use two professionally. Great camera, could probably be had for £400.00 these days.

I first read that as 'I would try to get hold of a 5dmk2 at a museum'!

Never shot Nikon I must admit. Spec wise they look very tempting but people report that it tends to make skin red

Just shoot raw, then even if skin is blue, you can sort.

A few more options now (28mm f2, 50mm 1.8) and Samyang have some very decent AF lenses (the 50mm 1.4 can be found very cheap).

Never heard that one! That would be down to how it's set to process to JPG. Plenty of settings to get it how you like - but if you're good enough to appreciate FF, you're good enough to appreciate RAW. There's also the D600 to consider.

The D700 sold in millions, I think we can assume that it can deliver skin tones.

RAW is a must though for almost all circumstances. The only time I ever shoot jpg is when taking pics for photo spheres. Then I set up everything to be near-perfect from the camera as there's no way I'm chucking 2,000 to 3,000 shots through Lightroom.

These things are just tools though. As long as they are technically capable then the brand means nothing.

Pentax K1 is a no brainer as it is so much better in terms of image quality, weather sealing, astro tracking, night illumination, GPS, ergonomics and optical quality that it's almost a joke comparison against its price peers (Canon EOS 6D etc). It destroys the 5D for image quality. The only way to get better image quality is to buy a medium format or a mirrorless Sony A7R mk2.

It's half the price of a Canon EOS 5 MK4 which it consummately outperforms in every area except autofocus motion tracking and video.

https://www.dxomark.com/pentax-k-1-sensor-review-f...

DXO Mark are the world's leading independent camera and lens testing lab.

It also gives you access to probably the world's greatest collection of legacy lenses because every lens ever made in pentax K Bayonet mount since 1972 will work on it and many are of stellar optical quality - like the Pentax D-FA 85mm f1.4 which is probably the best 85mm portrait lens ever made - and that's before you get into the Pentax Limited 31mm, 43mm and 77mm primes which are stunning.

Just noticed you bought a 6D - enjoy it, it's a fine camera - if not in the K1 class.
