One thing that I've just realised is that the Fuji zoom lenses zoom in the opposite way to Canon. That may get annoying.

This thread has really got me thinking. Unfortunately the Sony FF kit is probably too much of a stretch for me financially. I basically need to keep to the value of my existing kit. So I have been looking at the Fuji X-T20 or the X-E3, with a Canon M6 as an other option. Does anyone have experience of switching from FF DSLR to APS-C mirrorless, especially the Fuji system?
A friend of mine works for a tech / design mag and as a result gets to try pretty much every new bit of photography/video kit available and he chooses to shoot Fuji, says he loves it. I don't know which model it is but I know it's an APS-c mirrorless.
I'm in the position of being able to have any camera/lens setup that I want, and I choose to shoot Canon FF. Looking forward to the new Canon FF Mirrorless (but a look at the leaked spec suggests the very first model might not be the one to go for).

Thanks, for sharing those. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to have a play tonight, things got a bit busy yesterday.

I’ve got a trade in value offer from WEX that will cover what I need so now need to decide on X-T20/X-E3 and 23f2/35f2. I’ve seen that there are some deals on the X-T2 but it’s still a few hundred quid more expensive. Maybe I need to get to a camera shop and try the ergonomics.

When I was a staff newspaper photographer I was given Nikon kit to replace my own Canon kit I'd been using for only ten years or so back then. 2x brand new F5s, 24-70, 70-200, 300, all f2.8. It took about a month of using it every day before I could pick up the camera and reliably twist the zoom the right way every time. I never liked the F5, I much preferred my EOS 3s.

Will you be getting the 28-70mm F2 at only a little over £3000? rolleyessmile

I doubt it, I find what I get with the 2.8 suits my needs very well, I'm not hugely into the bokeh thing anyway.

I probably won't get the new EOS R either now that more is known about it, I think it's probably playing the role of John the Baptist. I'll wait til the JC model comes out.

Cool. I won’t have that sort of immersion, but I won’t be shooting anything critical either. Hopefully a week on holiday will be a good start! I’ll be going with my Dad, who will be taking his Canon kit, so we may end up with some good comparisons.

The new FF Canon R kit looks impressive, but not that much smaller than the full size kit. Way too rich for me too.

I've been thinking about making the switch from a Canon 5D3 to either an A7R III or A7 III. Anyway, I was thinking about lenses and it seems there isn't a huge array of really long lenses available.

What do folks here use for nature shoots? I've seen the Tamron 150-600mm is available in a Sony mount, Sony's own 100-400mm G lens is far too expensive for me.

I also like lenses at the other end of the spectrum, ultra wide angle lenses for astro photography. I was thinking about a Samyang 14mm, I have one for my Canon and I really like it, it's good quality for really cheap I've found. What do folks here use for ultra wide angle stuff?

Many thanks everyone

I've been thinking similarly lately too. The Samyang 14mm F2.8 looks absolutely ideal for landscapes and star work. Like you say, really well priced. There's Sigma's 14 F1.8 too at a lot more money.

The 70-200 with extenders seems like a pretty good option for length? But it's still not hugely cheap.

The real issue I'm running into is a walkaround lens that doesn't break the bank. The 24-70 G master for ~£2k just seems nuts. Maybe the tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 but it's not been around long so not had a chance to try yet.

The 24-70 Zeiss is very good, avoid the Sony 24-70.

I have a bunch of primes, but keep the Zeiss 24-70 on my A7R2 as a walkabout. It's really good, small and light.

Is this the older f2.8 or the current f4 that you guys are talking about? I can't see a current f2.8 for sale from Zeiss...

Yeah it's just the F4 that turns me off really. I love to have an aperture of 2.8 or larger to hand.

Primes. The way to go, fast as you like, then just keep a lightweight zoom on in case you see something you need to 'snap' asap. Sorted.

Do you mean the Sony 28-70? I've read mixed reviews but its ridiculously cheap so I'm tempted to grab a second hand one from ebay.

I've read some excellent reviews of the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 but that's a lot more money.

I've just ordered a Samyang 24mm f2. 8 for landscapes, got it from E Infinity for about £240, reviews are excellent so I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Yep the Sony 24-70 f4, it is no where near as good as the Zeiss 24-70 f4.

I would say if you can stretch to the Zeiss, go for it.

Just taken the plunge and bought a Z7 with the 24-70. I'd have preferred the 35/1.8 but I want to use it on a forthcoming trip and the primes don't seem to be in the country yet.

Hope it lives up to expectations...

I think that tomorrow's announcement of the tie up between
Panasonic, Leica and Sigma, to produce FF cameras and lenses should be interesting:
