I'm looking for a lens for taking pictures of Birds (Especially red Kites).

I Have a D7200 and a Sigma 50-150 F2.8, and it is too short, the Kites come quite close but are nowhere like filling the frame.

Current thoughts are.

150-600 (probably Sigma)
70-200 + 2x teleconverter.

Budget is £800 max.

Any other suggestions other than sell it all and buy Canon? smile

Excellent

My daughter has now finished her Duke of Ed Bronze for this part of it ( she still needs to go on a 3 mile hike to McDonalds, or whatever they do nowadays) so I hope she still continues to use the Canon G3X and see how a slightly better camera than a BLOODY phone does

her efforts today got our first starling chick of the season. Only one. He must be the Alpha starling. When they all appear I expect the sparrow hawk to get interested like last year.

The law of the jungle = > Mealworm > Starling > Sparrowhawk > Canon 3GX ....... maybe.

biggrin

You put mealworms down and cue the music

Beautiful sharp shot. Always love how amazing starlings look when you actually see them properly1

Nikon 300 f/4 AFS with the 1.4 teleconverter. Look at the second hand and grey market if you need to keep the cost down as much as possible.

Thanks for the reply.

To be honest, at that value, I don't really want to run the gauntlet of grey import/2nd hand.

I have just reserved a Nikon 200-500 for collection later.

Just over a grand with cashback.

Based on a few reviews, seems to be worthwhile over the sigma 150-600C

Am I insane?

OK I know this doesn't really count, but for a few minutes each year the setting sun shines straight into our webcam'ed nestbox.

Do 'captive' birds count? Here is a picture of my Cockatiel - looking good considering he is over 22 years old!

A nice composition and the camera also continues to impress. Especially shooting the equivalent of circa 500mm at 1/200th !

Thank you.

I think you're right. I consciously selected Cloudy WB hoping it would be a little warm. I think with all the greenery around it just ended in cloudy sky taking on s slight hue.

I noticed it straight on LR - and decided to leave it ....
