I learnt that puffins are small and fast, and on a dull foggy evening when they don't want to come close then 300mm isn't really enough lens. But I got some mediocre shots of them at least.

And had a surprise encounter with an Eagle, which also would have benefitted from decent light.

A couple of weeks ago my wife and son told me about a "big parrot" that had been in the garden and then flew on to the deck at the back of the house. Last weekend it was sitting in a tree and then flew past me and sat on the clothesline on the deck. Unfortunately the dog objected to me talking to it and scared it off before I could get my camera.

Today it was back. Not the best photo given all I had handy was my phone, but I'm quite pleased with it given I was able to get within 3 feet of it. One of the small cameras is now sitting next to the back door in case it comes back (I'll probably never see it again).

It's a female Australian King Parrot.

Tricky conditions (f4 and iso800 was only getting me to 1/250th!) so was pleased to get anything usable smile

Is that Kingfisher in your Christmas Tree DD?

wink

Nice work. Something different in terms of a Kingfisher shot and I think it works.

Hah - not yet!

Thanks, was moderately chuffed with the end result especially given the tricky conditions smile

I’ve never photographed a green woodpecker or a peregrine in the wild before. Here I got both at Bushy Park recently

If you click through on the links under the images you should be able to see the EXIF data that will tell you pretty much everything on that subject.

Suffice to say that it is some serious kit.

Well used for these shots. Very nice results.

Thank you both. Fortunately for me the subjects in the first couple of shots weren't too bothered by my presence, and I got really lucky with the hawk as the light was perfect and it sat there just long enough for me to get a nice shot.
