Well i am using a 7d Mk11 which has a cropped sensor coupled with a 150-600mm lens giving me about 930mm of zoom, the kite i guess was about 50M the pic is about a quarter of the original ,so a big crop, and the owl again 50% crop at a range of 20M. Hope that helps.

Some really nice shots there. Just wondering - about what distance were the short eared owl and red kite shot over? Just wondering at what distances a DSLR type setup can take that kind of quality pictures. cheersJSS 911 said:

Thanks for the reply, very useful for a comparison against the pictures I have been trying to take of various peregrine falcons with a sony rx10. cheers.Today's efforts with the Sony RX10iii

Nice hen Pheasant, plumage looks immaculate. She will be on a clutch of eggs before long. IMG_3189a by Ross Davidson, on Flickr
I have a decoy Pintail sitting in my back garden, very lifelike, and a Robin often lands on its head, it would make
a very interesting picture but it never sits long enough for me to grab the camera.
Keep them coming Ross.

There are 6 of the buggers in total, with 1 male. Snow today made it possible to snap her - they’re usually too well camouflaged to get anything acceptable I have a decoy Pintail sitting in my back garden, very lifelike, and a Robin often lands on its head, it would make
