Thanks mate smile

I must admit despite the results I was struggling a bit with my toy camera (RX10iii) as it kind of falls apart beyond about iso400 and my shutter speeds were getting ridiculously low (eg 1/50th for the kingfisher!). There was a guy next to me with a 'real' camera blazing away at iso5000 and xx frames per second at what sounded like about 1/1000th and I was getting a tiny bit jealous... will contemplate various options and probably do nothing smile
1/50th?

How do you get the birds to stay still enough to use 1/50th and retain that level of feather detail?

Would the MkiV be a useful upgrade from an ISO perspective?

ETA.

I downloaded some sample files for the Mk IV and tried a few things in post processing.

Interesting in that at, for example, ISO4000 the perceived results seemed to vary a lot depending subject matter, shutter speed and, possibly, focal length. There seemed to be some sweet spots and some not quite so sweet spots.when pixel peeping.

A little bit of perseverance and a lot of luck smile

I believe the MkIV focuses a bit better but is otherwise about the same? Not 100% sure though - will look into

Interesting, thanks... I think pixel peeping is the problem actually, I just need to crank up the iso a bit further and not look too closely hehe

Good idea. One can always just draw a few lines to recreate fine details like feathers.

For broader subjects like Landscapes one can get away with ignoring details or, alternatively, go to full "art, dharling" mode.

wink

I hope so, otherwise with the size of that insect, I'm not going out into the countryside.

Stunning shot. Absolutely spot on. Thanks for posting.

Still trying to get close to the quality of picture dibblydobbler gets but alas this is the best I could manage (not taken in the UK as I was overseas in case anyone was wondering why the light looked much stronger than what one would get even on a sunny winter day)
