Sorry to hear of (and see) the results of some selfish, reckless scumbag's big night out. I hope they get caught and suitably punished.

Best of luck with sorting it out.

Sorry to see this, good luck with sorting it.

About 10 years ago at a previous address I was sitting in my lounge late one evening when I herd this almighty smash, ran outside to see this p@** head staggering out of his Astra convertible after ploughing into both of my neighbours cars shunting one into another.
I grabbed this guy along with my neigbour and waited for the Police to turn up which after repeated calls they evenually arrived after an hour from making the first call. (I lived in Esher Surrey nr Police Station but that night they came from Staines!!)Although he was getting aggressive and irate he was so smashed I doubt he could of run in a straight line. Needless to say my Neighbours cars were both write off's and the Astra sat outside for over a Month bathing in puddles of oil.

I suggest you (and suggest to witnesses) write down what has been seen. Obviously, if statements have been taken ignore this post. If not:

Write it chronologically. Consider what was seen (before:- parked in what position, also what else was around) and after. Times, weather conditions, what was heard, in other words anything and everything. If statements are needed you will have notes made soon after the event (it's amazing how fast memory changes)smile

Apologies for the lack of updates, work, annoyingly, is getting in the way!

Unsurprisingly, the car that caused this hit mine was reported stolen, 12+ hours after the incident occurred. I find this highly suspicious and I am not the only one... needless to say I expect things to be quiet for a while as things are looked into by those best placed to do so.

Watching CSI (insert USA city here) gives me false hopes but I still have my fingers crossed.

I will update when I have more, but for now I don't want to say too much.

Your local cops should be fairly interested in that, especially as you have witnesses who can ID the driver. Trust me I should know. Mind you, sometimes my colleagues don't always give these things tjhe priority they deserve. Get a name for an offcier dealing with the matter, and badger them relentlessly. If you annoy them enough they'll do you a good job!

Really sorry to see the car9s0 like that.

How keen are you to save it? If the chassis isn’t damaged it could probably be repaired. Did you have sufficient agreed value on your insurance? Stay away from claims management companies. If the brokers aren’t interested in being involved, try and deal direct with the claims department at the insurance company. This was mine after a little “moment” and it was brought back thanks to Surface & Design and a lot of haggling with the insurance company which turned out to be quite helpful in the end.

Good luck what ever you decide to do.

Joe's right. Accident management firms or ambulance chasers, escalate the costs for everyone. Better to latch onto the insurance claims handler on your claim to see how they intend to deal with it.They will probably try establishing who the owner of the stolen vehicle is first, and their insurer, as its a matter to be claimed off them. If the car is insured, the claim will probably get passed back to the poor sod who owns it - and then it will be a case of the insureds insurance firm to prosecute for the costs from the scrotum who stole it, whose likely to have no money (rah rah rah, so gets off with community service or such like other crap. If they think its going to cost more than its worth, they may not resort to prosecution as the litigation costs might make it prohibitive. If they can't trace back, they will then stump up the costs themselves (provided your fully comp) to whatever the policy conditions of your policy are and its a possible compo from the MIB, although in the main they help those who have nothing to fall back on at all (in this case if your were Third Party Fire & Theft for example and therefore no-one would repair/replace/indemnify you)

If you have gone through a broker - its their job to chase all this down for you (thats what they are paid for)

It really is so important that you understand how they intend to deal with it. It could end up being a matter of claiming of the MIB and I have given you that link in a previous note.

Ohhhh, man frown Just saw this.

Stats, I drive past your car every week and admire it (was my ideal spec, green S3). I thought I spied a bit of fibreglass damage on Monday but now I read what has happened weeping

Really sorry to read about what happened. Don't let it lie - usual things, collect ads from the classifieds to get a good value, receipts for recent work down. If it comes down to it, buy back the salvage and repair it with the payout thumbup

All the best, from a local S2 driver.

Update time... but first thanks to all for your advice support smile

I did take on an accident management company in the end (as recommended by the BMW's insurance), my opinion of them is not high! They were appraised of the situation at the outset, i.e. an ongoing Police investigation, my desire not to rack up costs or claim from my insurance as this was none fault etc. I was told "no hire car = no accident management/assistance". Having the details explained a bit more, I allowed them to take over the BMW claim, a car was provided, all was looking good, the TVR claim was put on hold (although all correctly logged and notified). Fast forward 7 days and the situation is not resolved (no surprise there considering the situation and the Police investigation) and all of a sudden the initial keenness to get me into a car has transformed into a keenness to get me out of one and cease all assistance. As it turns out I think I've made more phone calls than the AM company and know more about what's going on. But, I have had a hire car for a week that has not cost me anything, which is positive. I think they should be renamed 'Car hire' companies though as this is at the core of their business and what they excel in, not in managing accidents to a satisfying and successful conclusion for the innocent party. But that's just my two pence worth and sure that others will have had different experiences.

Back to the incident, the police are investigating, and report that they should have a definitive answer for me on the guilt or otherwise of a suspected driver in a about a month. Forensic and witness statements will hopefully all come into play to resolve this, so fingers crossed for the right outcome.

I am looking at getting to keep the TVR as I've had interest from others in purchasing it, but that will depend on the 3rd party insurers and of course the negotiating of price that may come around if I ever get to that stage. Is it likely to be more or less complex if the third party insurer ends up with the liability? I've no experience of this so keen to get advice before hand should I find myself in the position of needing it.

One question if I may..... does the phrase "being put on notice" have a specific or legal meaning? In the following hypothetical situation, if the Police where to put someone on notice that they may be liable for something does this have any significance in either a criminal or civil matter?

Thanks to all,
Stats

Thread resurrection because I for one, and I'm sure many others are interested to know the outcome.
It was the bodytub & bonnet advertised on eBay that got me thinking about this case, & I've been looking back to find the thread.
Any positive results OP? I really hope so.

I was thinking about this recently. I drive past the car regularly, looking rather sad. I do hope it will be rescued. Is there anywhere it could be stored safely until the insurance is straightened out?
