2.9 V6 engine. Turns over ok. No notching or bad grating.
Heads look ok, no discernible twisting
I've not measured the wear in the cylinders but it probably will need a rebore to be 100%
What's missing. There's no:-
Injectors, fuel rail and push rods. It needs 3 head bolts. There's also 2 or 3 exhaust manifold bolts that will need drilling out.
It's sound enough for someone to rebuild in preparation for when their own fails.
No catch. Whoever wants it can collect from Newbury, Berkshire.
1st come gets it.

I don't joke about free things!

was thinking the same, bring some spanners along and strip heads off to make it a bit more manageable but if you've got a use for it Stuart take it away smile

I'd like it, please, Dave, if Mike and Stuart don't mind: if you've seen my post earlier today, you'll know why!
I have tried to 'phone you without success, so I'll PM as well.

I'd push it a bit further into the engine stand. Wouldn't want that dropping onto your toes

Take it away, but if you don't need the sump pan or the front timing cover I'd like them some time as and when you're sorted?

All yours. Was wanting it to fathom out an electric water pump arrangement.

I'm interested in this Stuart, guess the original water pump stays on to fill the hole and give connections?

Is it as simple as leave the pulley off and get a shorter fan belt or maybe better to remove the pump impellor, spindle, pulley flange etc. and get the hole it would leave "bunged up"?

Dave: when I got home I checked the bonnet of my S3 as you said, and sure enough the battery HAD been touching the underside of the bonnet. Top tip! No surface damage outside, though.
So I've moved the battery back in the tray an inch, and secured it for now with the ratchet strap you gave me!

For me, a very useful trip: many, many thanks!

Major thread resuscitation!

I fitted Dave's (BlueS3) engine to my car in late 2016. Thanks again, Dave!

Many other things have happened in the meantime, some of them chronicled on here, but I'm now at the point where I'm happy to let the (well-worn) engine run for another year, and concentrate on my front suspension and interior.

But now that I can get the car out of the garage, I have another spare engine to give away (it lives at the back, behind the car).

It's a 2394cc Cologne V6 (block code ARC). It's well-worn, but a runner. I've used the pushrods and injectors and a few nuts and bolts in resurrecting the 2.9, but it's mostly all there from the manifold down. The sump pan is well dinged, and has a mystery bracket welded to it; but it didn't leak. For common parts with the 2.9 engine Fordopedia is a fine guide.

I can't imagine anybody will want to put a 2.4 in a TVR again (or in anything else, for that matter) but it might be a basis for a supercharged or turbocharged engine.

If anybody wants particular spares I don't mind doing a bit of dismantling, but I don't really want to get far into the oily bits. Way back in this thread phillpott said he was interested in the timing gear cover to look at an electric water pump design. Still interested Mike?

Otherwise: I can borrow an engine crane to lift it into your hatchback (for full instructions see here).

I'd like it gone in the next couple of months (I keep barking my shin on it) so, if nobody claims it by the end of October it will go to be weighed-in.

As well as BlueS3, my thanks go to everyone on PH S Series for their continuing help and support.

Hi John, were you a bit nearer I'd gladly take it out of your way but unfortunately not really viable with the distance/cost involved. If you do get bored one day and feel like pulling the timing cover, stat housing etc. off and parceling then up wink

Thanks Mike. Let's leave it and see if anybody wants the job-lot: if so, we can negotiate, If not, I'll strip 'em off before I send it to the scrappers.
