Yes he was very helpful friendly and approachable, supplied great slave cylinder and caps. However the throttle cable did not it is a tvr after all. I have heard a Capri one could be an option. To be clear Neil was great no complaints there.

Measure the length of the outer sleeve and compare it to the selection of Sierra ones available on the Burton Power website.
They supplied my last one for my S1 2.8.
You do need to soften the square molded nylon retainer section in a jug of boiling hot water to enter it into the metal bracket.

Was it the ML that didn't fit then?

Yep snapped at the plastic screw part. Needs to be longer to reduce the angle.

Bugger, I've got one of them in the boot waiting to be fitted. Bought it ages ago! Better take a look at it....

Went to stick mine on last night, which I got from Neil @ MLP.

It is slightly shorter than the original one (which was too short to start with), but it's also quite flexible and can just about be fitted without stressing it. It's not a perfect long term solution, but it'll do for now.

I've actually made life harder for myself by attempting to correctly seat the cable directly into the pedal box, as opposed to resting it on the bulkhead and sticking a C-clip around it before lashing it with sealant, as per the factory hehe
While this will result in a nicer feeling and responding throttle, it does mean the outer casing of the cable fouls the back of the pedal, which in turn now needs re-shaping to allow for the fact the cable is sitting further back. I also had to chop the back of the casing off.

I'm still trying to work out why I do this to myself.....

Annnnd further to this, I've finally got the cable all rigged up and fitted..........and it snapped at the pedal end. Pissed off is an understatement at the moment!

Going to order a Capri 2.8i cable and modify the pedal to accept it. It's about 150mm longer than the Sierra one (which it turns out is all this one is) so it should fit better.

Fingers crossed....

Is that pedal box similar to the V8S? On the V8S, the cable alignment with the pedal could be thrown way out unless the outer was secured properly. Even with that sorted there was a huge kink in the inner when the pedal was fully up, which got even worse if the adjuster was used to raise the pedal. Finally, lack of a pedal stop meant the cable ended up taking far more force than it was designed for at WOT.

I made up a small bellmouth ferule on mine to avoid that kink where it attached to the pedal - that plus a pedal stop made a huge difference and the cable that was previously breaking every year or so has lasted for 100k+ miles without any further problems.

Box is same as V8S, but I think the cable fitting is different.

Was planning to make a throttle stop, but didn't even get that far - it broke as I applied the throttle for the 3rd/4th time, probably at about 25% opening. Pedal was noticeably lighter than it had been too, so it's not like it was snagged or strained etc.

Capri 2.8 cable is out of the mix too, as they're NLA, apart from the Capri club, where they're around £30 or so. Once I realised that, I hit Burton Power's website and found the Sierra 2.8 cable (which looks very identical to the one I just tried to fit) and then spotted that the Sierra Cosworth cable is listed as the same fittings, only it's around 1750mm long - about 200mm longer than the Sierra V6 one. Far more ideally suited to the S1, so I've ordered one (wasn't cheap, mind - just under £40) and will report back, but I suspect that might be the best one yet. My concern is that the quality might be the same as the V6 one was, but we'll see.

The Capri cable isn't a straight-forward fit. It would require the modification of the throttle pedal, whereas (in theory, using my old partsman hat from years ago) the Cossie cable should go straight on.

We'll see laugh

At 40 quid I'd expect it to fit itself! biggrin

Having said that I modified mine to use a Cortina cable, they were £5 or £6 on Ebay when I did it, must be a couple of years ago now, looking yesterday and they're now £25!!!!!

Anything Capri or RWD Escort is really silly money.

Looks like it was 5 years ago and they were £3 smile............. clicky

Well it's just arrived, looks nice quality too. I'm waiting for some Chimaera bits to arrive so I can finish that, so I'll pop it on in the meantime and report back. £40 for a cable I'll only change once is no big deal......as long as I only have to change it once!

Update on the Cosworth cable for the S1...

It fits much better than the one I got from ML. It's probably slightly too long, if anything, but the problem I'm now having is that the throttle goes sticky when the engine bay heats up. Normally the cable outers are teflon coated internally, but it's possible these are a bit too dry for the S engine bay, especially with all the sweeps and bends in it they may not normally be there on a Sierra.

I plan to drip feed a lot of 3in1 oil down it and refit it, see how that goes. If it weren't for the dryness, I'd happily recommend it. Hopefully it'll come good with some lube getmecoat

I'm not totally sure how putting another return spring in it is going to help though?
