From my previous experience of owning a Chim, is there any downloadable software to a PC similar to the Rovergauge diagnostic tool that will be compatible to the S?

I found Rovergauge was brilliant at analysing the realtime fuelling as well as flagging fault codes so, is there an equivalent for our cars??

BTW, thanks to the PH member known as blitzracing for all his good advise and supplying the cable connection for the Rover 14CUX ECU clap

If you have a V8S then you should get this asap!! wink

Depends which model. Is it a V8S with the Rover engine or the trusty Ford V6?

For the ford, this has an earlier ECU which can deliver fault codes etc in a simple way and there is something called a "star tester" which can connect to the ECU and run some simple diagnostic tests. There are a couple in the S fraternity available to borrow which can be a help with fault diagnosis.

Thanks Ray, I should have been clearer.

I am talking about the Cologne V6/ Ford ECU. I'll take a look at the suggested 'Star' tester although I was hoping that someone had decoded the software as has happened with the Rover ECU which is not just a fault code reader but gives the 'realtime' fuelling condition that tells you more than just a static test.

Hi yknot. I have a Gunson code reader for the ford eec iv ecu, I never managed to make it work as my car was missing the connector (long and boring story see here if you have time.. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... ) and I now have an Emerald ecu so its surplus to requirements. happy to send to you if you email me your contact details

Hi Alan, many thanks for your kind offer. I will send you a pm. I was hoping that someone had reverse engineered the Ford ECU software as the Rovergauge boys (and blitz) had achieved but, alas, it seems not!

Been following your posts on the S1 rebuild and as I recall you did a similar job on your Chim; didn't you convert it to LPG?

Rovergauge is a brilliant bit of kit, but sadly nobody has done anything like this for the EEC set up.

There was a chap in Australia who was working on a similar system to Rovergauge to work primarily on Motronic systems, but also the earlier Jetronic stuff. EEC is pretty similar to L-Jetronic, so hopefully something will surface in the future. Wouldn't hold your breath though hehe

Not this Alan. My Chim was bog standard. So a normal TVR 1 off.
