Ok found all the bits for the boot except the leaver and cable. I don't think these were ever with the bits I got, so need a picture of the leaver or if anybody know the car it came from.

Thanks

No idea about the cable but isn't the release lever the orange bonnet release from Ford escort or Sierra?

Jeremy is correct Alan
The S1 boot release lever is the orange lever fitted under the steering column as per Sierra/ Escort bonnet release.
It should be easy enough for a man of your calibre to to rig up an alternative release, mounted somewhere unobtrusive on the back bulkhead, using something like a generic choke cable and knob.

Think that's what I will do Mike, may just put a manual in as well, just in case.

Yep, good plan think it was a choke cable I used.

I fitted one in the rear panel next to the roof strut. Low enough to use when the roof is down but enough away from the shelf so that is still usable.

Land Rover bonnet release pull lever iirc. Need to find an imperial rivnut to fit 'properly'.

That's nowhere near where I fitted my "secret" boot release whistle

Where does the Rivnut go?

The lever I used screws in place. The threaded part of the shaft is too short to reach though the fibreglass panel so bonded a rivnut into the panel and screwed the lever into it.

Used one of these;

Just been to the yard and found a fiat Punto, going to scrap so that's now off and in the workshop, long enough to fit just in front of the seat.

I hit lucky, cable I bought had a long enough thread.

Do you still have the nut that came with the cable, could it be soldered/welded to a bit of metal and bonded onto the bulkhead scratchchin

Could be. It's a bit thin though - more of a gland lock nut - so may not react well to welding. Riv nut is cheap and easy. Just need to find the right thread.

That's what mine has after the cable snapped several years ago. One thing I would say is don't mount it too low as it's a bugger to get at without cody contortions if you have short arms like me. Anyone over 6'-no problem.
