Dear all,

I have planned to upgrade my seats on the S3 for some time. I would like seats with more lateral sopport.

Now I found a good pair of Cayman/Boxter (2012) seats.

Does anybody here know if they would fit in an S3?

I think I can sort out the electronics so that is not a worry at this point. 😃

Kind regards

//Rob

only 2 ways to find out

1. trial fit

2. careful measure and check

but basically if the squab is more than 18" wide it probably will not fit

How about height? Will they hit the targa bow?

You can answer that for yourself far easier than anyone can answer it for you. Either measure the seats and compare the measurements with the space they need to fit into, or take one of the existing seats out and try physically offering up one of the new seats. You're only looking at a few bolts at the end of the day, and if you take the passenger's side out you could even drive over to where the seats are and try them.

Yea, you are right. I will take out the passenger seat and go there. It's about 1,5 hours dull driving one way and wanted to enquire if someone tried before taking the plunge.

I'm just lazy I guess 😉

The Cayman seats are full leather and look real good. Electronics need to be sorted thoug.

The alternative would be Miata seats I guess.

Thank you

I am sure they look and feel great, they are likely to be too wide i am afraid...

But electric seats in an S... what do they weigh? And what's the current requirement ?

Lols that said it's your car and if you want them and they fit go for it.. perhaps with some mounting reinforcement?

I have an S, sorry it's a Boxster but happy to measure up if you want to save the driving ! I guess they are the same seats. Having put some seats out of an S5 (same as a basic R8 I think) in my van I have some experience of the electrics too. Think you will find only the rake is electric and the rest is usually manual.
They are comfy but not significantly compared to a good set of the originals. They do have significant height adjustment which seams similar to a proper S so they might well work.

Thank you for input for all input.

These turned out to be all manual. Grest news.

I'm going there to take a look on Friday to see if they fit. These were like new. Not cheap but quality is well beyond any TVR stuff.

My S3 is supercharged and with a 4.27 LSD diff so weight is probably not really a problem... :-) , except maybe on the track. :-(

Kind regards

Interesting what sort of power are you seeing from the SC..?

Also sorry for my ignorance but doesn't that diff make 1st redundant? Or is it more about using the closer ratio gears more i.e. 2nd 3rd 4th.?

Good luck with the seats, it would be good to see more variety and like you say Porsche engineering smile

Cheers

The trouble with these porker seats is the amount of medication you need to buy to stop the TVR rejecting them.

Indeed, buzzit if you could be ever so kind to measure your seats it would be brilliant. Thank you.

The ones I found are "light weight" , they are all manual except for the back tilt. They also have a light weight rear shell, looks like carbon fiber. They are from a 2012 Cayman.

I sure hope they fit.

Damian, I see about 230 RW bhp and 450 RW Nm. The engine does have som other upgrades also like cam, ECU, ignition, porting and a few other things. Still she spinns like a kitten when used for casual driving.

She run's on 18's so I do make use of first gear. I will post some more info here next week. I has been a long relationship....

The 4.27 LSD rear end was the best investment so far.

This is a gen 1 987 which is 2006 so might not be the same. They are however exactly the same as in the 997 911. This means they also tilt forwards.
Rails are 410mm apart and 460mm long.
The Seat base is 520mm wide including the handle for height
From the runner to the top of the headrest is 1000mm on its lowest setting. There is 50mm of height adjustment.
The front of the rail sits about 30mm higher at the front of the seat compared to the back i.e. The floor is heigher.
The Seat base is only 20mm heigher than the rail at the back but 150mm heigher at the front.
I cannot see the fixing length of the rails front to back but guess it's around 380mm.
I can't see anything which protrudes below the rails.
Mine have just done 100k and need a clean ( cleaner is on order) but you just would not know to sit in them as there is no sag at all.

Hope that helps.

Cheers Greg

the seat base at 520mm (just over 20") wide is too wide - an S has little over 18

Brilliant. Thank you!

They look very similar to the ones I found. Too bad that they may turn out to be too wide as per Magpipes post.

I'm back home tomorror so I can go to the garage and take a closer look before driving off to the seller.

I would love for them to fit.

I will revert with more info on Friday.

Kind regards

Hi,

I checked for size in my S3 today and the 520mm width is probably fine as the widest part is in the front and so are the original seats. The rear side seems to be narrower from the picture and that is more important.

-And I don't need the height adjuster lever so that can gain about an inch.

The shock was that the height of 1000mm does not fit under the targa bow. When I measure I get a max of maybe 97-98 cm below the targa bow and the lids. The 1000mm was quoted by BuzzIt in the lowest position so that is a definite no go.

To bad !!

Or am I missing something?

Kind regards

These seem to look slightly different with a diffrent upper part and head rest. Maybe they are lower??
