Did anyone else read this book Nicolas Sellens' wrote about his Griff?

To summarise, he was seemingly gouged by a number of unscrupulous garages for repairs and refurbishment work to the tune of £24,000, whilst his Griff was off the road for almost three years.

I've been doing some sums for the re-build of my Chimaera.

A full rebuild - body off chassis, engine, drivetrain, re-trim and a respray could easily see me spending well over £20k. And it wouldn't be done overnight either. 3 years does seem a bit long though.

Sounds like it would be nice once completed. From what I could gather from the book, the author was never really happy with his Griff? frown

We had the pleasure of sorting out the woes with this car, after all the other places had charged the earth and not delivered!

I am pleased to say we have restored Nicks faith in his Griff, and he has not long returned from Drive Espania tour of Spain in it!

PS :- The book is a worthwhile read too.

Hi Toffer, this is Nick, owner of Calamity Griff! I think I wrote the book in a fit of morose disenchantment. It was probably out of the deep frustration at being mechanically inept and unable to put right any of the gremlins myself. These cars demand to be owned by the inveterate tinkerer, and that ain't me! Trev and I are a bit like a old married couple. We cuss and bicker but we know we will always be there for each other in the end. Thankfully, he's been going really well recently and we are through our rocky patch, touch wood. All I have now is the paint and trim to save up for!

they don't... 'demand to be owned by the inveterate tinker"

I've had my Griff 500 19 years - (from new) it gets serviced/MOT once a year by professionals. never had any big problems, nor a large stupid bill..

your's I think, is a story of garages not to be trusted/dealt with.

I think that given the age of these cars now and the dreadful quality of some parts that are available, it's very useful to have the ability to tinker. For example, had I known one end of a multi-meter from the other I would have probably saved hundreds on tow trucks and the like down the years. But, as you say, the main thrust of the book is the idiots I got to repair him.
