Connect to the heavy lead on the alternator should work. If not try connecting to the starter motor. The wire does not need to be heavy duty as you are only driving the boot solenoid.

When you do get it open fit a cable release like THIS with the knob hidden inside the cockpit so you don't get caught out again.

Red (positive) lead to big terminal on back of alternator..... as already said

unless of course the cable between alternator and starter motor is broken and that's why you have a flat battery?

Where did you clip the black (negative) lead? Either earth stud on chassis or good clean (unpainted) metal on engine/alternator should work fine.

If yours is wired like mine, you would need to have the ignition on and alarm/imob disarmed before the boot will open. Depending on the alarm, you might need to get some life into the car's battery before the voltage comes up enough to do that. If the car's battery is OK apart from being flat and you don't mind waiting for a few hours, you can recharge it via that alternator terminal. On mine that hasn't been a problem and I was able to pop the boot just by momentarily connecting the power to the alternator, but your mileage may vary.

if all else fails then try a 2nd battery - connect the -ve to the chassis / earthstud, remove the boot operating relay from the fuse/relay box and put a male crimp into the output of the relay (first check which colour wire it is which goes to the boot solenoid) with a length of cable and touch the +ve on the battery momentarily. that should operate the boot solenoid.

This seems to be getting awfully complicated for a simple flat battery!

Mick, I did that but used the Audio battery for power, I have 2 tiny holes 3mm next to the ###### and is just a + to the boot motor and a fused direct feed from the audio battery, as all the batteries are grounded at the same point, I have a small piece of bent wire to just push in and it opens the boot

My release is 'elsewhere'.... are you sure yours isn't lurking somewhere nearby? If you email me I'll send you an image.

A valid point Ian, although I suspect that if some scum bag really wanted in the boot could be prised up and ripped open in a fraction of the time it would take with the (now not so secret) method ... scratchchin

I can't really imagine scumbags trawling the various sites in the hope of finding threads showing the 'secret' ways into cars.

Thanks Big Al.

Agree with above comments but there there's no point making it easy for any scumbags. We've managed this long without the secret being revealed for a reason wink
