the problem with measuring the height is different cars have been set at different ride heights - so probably need front and rear heights too.

And then where exactly to measure

You'll find every one different rolleyes
For what we want Mick you will be surprised to hear we actually need that variety. The height under the horizontal tube and then the position of the point on the bonnet relative to it. That point is the one that would touch the ground first if the bonnet was not restrained. You have probably got scratches under the front edge of the bonnet where it touched, most people seem to have. It would be helpful if you could check with Willie as well as I think his is original and has a more 'standard' ride height than yours?

From here to floor?

Thanks Mike but it is the distance under the horizontal tube which carries the rad mount which I am looking at. While you are at it, could you please give me the length of that horizontal tube please and the amount of the tube that projects beyond the rad mount? It is different on the early cars of course where that tube carries right through to the other side.

Ah, I've got one in at work I could measure tomorrow Richard. Misunderstood which measurement you wanted! Got a V8S with no bonnet on it, so to ground measurements are tricky, but the tube to the bottom of the hinge mounting point is doable.

If I can get 3 or 4 more in Richard I can do another test drawing and see if the option gives enough scope.

Doh! I misunderstood as well. rolleyes
The dimension A that I quoted was from the ground to the point that Phillpot indicated with his yellow arrow.

Not a problem Glen. On the assumption (how dangerous is that!) that they are all the same, the vertical distance from the bottom of the cross tube to the bottom of the original bonnet hinge mounting (point of Mikes yellow arrow) is 15mm on mine. So I can add that to your measurement.

For some reason the weather seems to be deterring people from measuring under their cars, cant think why!

My bonnet is currently 15 feet from the car but I'll do some measuring when it's eventually back in one bit

Not much info in so far so I have put down what I THINK the dimensions are (based on just 2 cars which have proved remarkably similar especially as one had a V6 bonnet the other a V8, although both had the spotlights).

So I am offering this sketch up so hopefully someone will get back to me and confirm or add to the info!

It MIGHT lead to a new bonnet hinge arrangement being manufactured.

Scroll down this old thread and you'll find a copy of Normans (Gerald TVR) hinge drawing.

These are the standard hinges, not a wide open conversion, that Nornam had reproduced in stainless steel.

You should look at the 'wide open' hinge modification while you are at this.

It makes access to the engine compartment so much easier.
