I thought that the bonnet looked a bit strange. No 'hump' like on the S1,2 and 3, no 'ramp' like on a V8S but no side vents like on an S4. Unless the lovely 2 tone paint job is hiding the vents???

S4? Think the vents are disguised by colour scheme, look at the underside in the bonnet open photo.

Hi. Anyone know this car? I'm thinking about an s, was going to get a chim but now toying with the s...anyone point me to information on buying and maintaining?

You mention maintaining so are you a hands on sort of bloke or is it the garage to get a wiper blade replaced?

A lot of stuff on an S, just with any old car I guess, can be time consuming rather than expensive parts wise (door hinges for example) but obviously time is money at a garage.

Running gear is nearly all Ford derived, Sierra and Granada/Scorpio so generally still available at reasonable prices.

The standard reply is often "there are three things to check... chassis, chassis and chassis!

They do rust, some far worse than others and as a friend on here found out recently a big repair receipt doesn't mean a top notch repair! If car has supposedly had chassis repairs ask for photo's and who did the work? Otherwise factor repairs into the purchase cost.

I could waffle on for pages but I'll leave room for others to add their comments or you could Google TVR S Series buyers guide ...


Final final word..... an S, particularly a V6 one is a very different car to a Chimaera, at the very least I'd try and get a ride in each, actually drive them ideally, before deciding. Your budget and whether you're after a "minter" or a project may well sway your decision....
