Hi All,

When I bought my s1 I couldn't use the key on right door. Seemed that one key broke inside the door barrel. When trying to extract it, I broke the door lock barrel at the end (see picture). It is now impossible to reuse. I’m searching to replace (both) lock barrels but can’t find the exact references (I know they should be Cortina Mk 3 / Capri Mk2). Can the still be bought somewhere. If not, are there perfect alternatives.
Cheers
Didier

Tbh that looks like a barrel from a Mk2 Vauxhall Astra.

Phillpot is right. I would go a bit further. It is well worth you familiarising yourself with the stuff in the Useful Links section at the top of this PH page. There is a massive amount of info in there collated by S owners as we have gained bit of knowledge. In there you will find the New Alternative Parts list, probably worth printing off as a reference document. The handles are listed as Capri although on later cars these same handles were produced direct for TVR with our logo cast in.

I'm sure you could just buy some new appropriate lock barrels and fit them into the Mk II Capri handles.
Back in the 80's, I fitted these to my Mk II Capri, to prevent the doors being opened with a lollipop stick and a bit of wiggling smile

Thanks all for the reply’s.

The discussion on the forum as well as the alternative part list I had. It’s just because I can’t find any Cortina MK3 / capri MK2 barrel locks that I was wondering if someone had used another solution keeping the Capri door handles.
I will look for the vauxhall / opel ones if they fit.
Cheers

Didier.

Just an eBay screen shot, but they look similar and can’t see much modification to make them fit.

The opel seem to be different: The one that I broke had hole / space, while the Opel ones are plain. i'll try to find a picture of a unbroken one on the net.

An update as I got further in my door barrel lock story.

this is the right door barrel lock for the TVR S1 (I took it out as the other is broken it is of no use anymore for me). As you can see the barrel lock got a hole at the end to attach te lever for the door mechanism.

I replaced both barrel locks with an integral solution

If anybody is in need for the to ends of the original door lock, please let me know, they are of no use for me anymore.

happy new year
