Be careful. That car was advertised on eBay yesterday and quickly removed for being a scam.

Hi Andy,
I don't know this particular V8S, but the MOT history is freely available:

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

From the photos you have posted, it looks like a nice example, but lots of non-standard things apart from the wheels ( which look nice smile )
The dash panel wood veneers have been replaced with plain blue covering of some sort, the switch knobs are definitely not original, the window rocker switches are a vast improvement over the originals, the instrument bezels are all lovely and not satin black. The indicator side repeaters are oval instead of square, and the jazzy engine detailing of the plenum, rocker covers and brake servo are definitely not standard, very much down to personal preference.
The alloy hood stays are a bonus, better than the thin steel black ones fitted on earlier S's.
I love the tempered titanium look of the gear knobs! cool

As always, HPI any car before you buy, and get the chassis thoroughly inspected.

Hopefully somebody will come along and tell you more about this car.

Good luck,
Glen

Because I religiously follow TVRs on eBay. This car was advertised with the standard scam advert asking for contract via a weird email written in different colours. The buy it now price was £4400 which we all know is a joke. I added it to my watch list and when I checked on it later it had been removed, just like all the other similar scam adverts.

What happens on eBay is the scammer finds a picture of a TVR that has recently been advertised. The photos are copied and and lazy advert is written talking about a "quick sale" and that they don't receive messages from eBay so you'll need to use the weird email to make contact.

I'm not saying the owner of this car is a scammer. I just saying there is a scammer who is using this car's photos to rip people off.

Can't tell you anything about the car but it has been up for sale for a while.
Was advertised privately then was on Berlinetta auction website but bidding only got up to 8k or so (seller was after 11K ).
Now on AH classics website. Has always stated in the ads that it was a Cat C at some point in the past.
Hopefully somebody will come through with a bit of history of the car soon.

No, long time gone now. I am on the look out for another TVR though. Griff/Chim/Tamora required to fill a space in my garage. Looking for something that is cosmetically tatty, but mechanically ok so I can drive it and have a project at the same time.

Your Griff is looking terrific. Hope you bulk buy polish,

Hi

Thanks for the replys, what has been said is what I was thinking my self. It was last MOT in Brize Norton (Twice) and is now SORNed

They are claiming it belonged to the sellers husband who died 3 mths ago.

The seller is happy to bring it to me for £100?

The seller lives in Northan Island but the cars in Aberdeen and I live in Cambs for just £100?

If I then like the car then I can pay for it on e-bay.

It all sounds to good for £4,400 for a quick sale.

All they want from me is proof of my address?

Again sounds a bit strange!

I may just play along with them just to see what happens.

Again thanks for the help you gave me, the answers are what I was expecting.

Very fishy indeed. Be careful, if you do decide to go along with it.
Don't pay the £100 in advance and ask about the possibility of buying it outright, when they bring it to you.

I can see a connection:

Brize Norton = Large RAF base

Aberdeen is near to RAF Kinloss & RAF Lossiemouth

It's possible the late owner had been posted from one station to the other.

Be careful Andy. I know those RAF types.... wink

And another thing, £4400 is way too cheap.
If ithe vendor wouldn't accept a bid price of ~£8k in October, it seems unlikely that they would now be prepared to let it go for £4.4k when it could easily fetch double that at a reputable classic auction.
Is that fish I can smell?

Ask for more pictures and with todays newspaper in one of them on the engine. Another thing you can do would be say that you gladly travel there for a testdrive or that you have a friend live close that can come over and have a look.
If it´s fishy they will say that they are not at home, away for work and so on.

Don't normally post in here but do have a regular look as big TVR fan, out of interest it is shown in the PH owners list as being owned at one point by a PHer "cooperman" maybe they have some more info?

So I think the contact being made to me is a scam.

I use ebay a lot and have been involved in helping stop a number of scams, including a whole stream of Chims. .Using a photo of a tempting car (often by hacking into the posters account, and that frequently includes motor trader accounts) and then offering it for sale at a low price is common practice. The owner seems often to be in NI and the car somewhere else. You buy it now and the £4400 disappears. You ask to have it brought over and the £100 disappears. That is still an easy £100.
How is he asking for payment? It is normally a direct and untraceable payment method. The only safe way for you is for him to ask you for the £100 as a deposit to be sent via paypal. To do that he will have to exchange email addresses and have a paypal account, which is traceable, cant see that happening.

If it's too good to be true, it isn't true.

In any case I would never ever pay money to an unknown person or small business for a car that had not been physically seen, and I'd never buy a TVR unless it had been inspected by an independent expert. There are a few people who will go inspect the car for you which would prove that the seller has physical possession of it and it is worth buying. You still have to be careful about being scammed. Personally, if that was me, I'd want to go there in person, meet the seller at their home, hand over cash, see the V5 updated and take the car away with a sales receipt. I wouldn't be willing to send that much cash into the internet without any assurance that I was actually getting the car.
